Today was fun!

  • Ok…so now after seeing the pics and all the comments about Tillo (whom I've always loved), I'm dying to see the BOB...

BTW, is he the first dog you've shown? Your pics always look like you are so comfortable and relaxed.

I was uploading mr. BOB.. but then photobucket told me I'm over my limit… I can't upload anymore.. :(
But I'm going to get another account now :D :D ;)

I have some great pics of all the B's entered and I will post them all :)

And yes, Tillo is my first 'show dog'. I'm really not that relaxed and of course only post the pictures in which I look very professional ;) :p

  • @tanza:

I just love his eye shape and color… one thing I have notice here in the US is way to many Basenjis are getting a rounder eye instead of almond shaped...

And my only comment about his tail would be that it sits a bit low, could be set higher, But I don't get the "open".... comment.

And I think his top lines looks great... but if the comment about him being a bit loose in front moving... maybe she thinks that gives him a softer top line also?..

Thank you for your comments. I also love his eyes.. I can watch that first pic for hours… (but why should I.. I can look at the real dog actually.. ;))

You're definitely right about his tail.. It should be set higher.. about the open.. maybe she wants a double curl? and next time the judge writes something I don't understand.. I will ask her personally... haha..
I don't think it has anything to do with his movement, because the judge reports are always written in the same order as her judging: On table: age, head, teeth, body. Then the movement. You have to stack you're dog after doing all this in front of her and she tells her writer what she thinks..

  • Well done Janneke & Tilo. I think he looks great - thats a real basenji expression - in my opinion.

  • Congrats on the fun day! The last point will come… :D (i know!)

    The pics are great!!

And the coursing.. We want to come also... but I really can't open the site..
(kan ik iemand een berichtje sturen via internet om iets te vragen?)

  • Ok, for everyone interested.. Mr. BOB Chandu, Bari Napsugar Africa Chandu, import from Hungary:

Hey Janneke ! Congrats to you and Tillo of course !:)
As I look at the picture of "Mr. BOB" I get the impression the judges are going for the more muscular type or am I wrong ? This of course would be great news for us as Bendji is quite firmly build.:D

  • I remember meeting his litter sister at Hannover Garbsen so you would have seen her too she was in Belle's class. He looks a nice dog and has had some nice wins.

Not 'the judges' of course, but this judge ;) and not more muscular.. If there's one pup muscular… then it's mine ;) :p
And don't mistake muscular with Bendji's firm body ;) :p :p Haha.. just kidding of course :p (has he lost some weight already?)

Chandu is very elegant looking, high on his legs compared to the other. I will upload pics of the other basenji's in about half an hour.. there are also a couple of Aboteres.

Yes, his sister won that class, didn't she? I believe the whole litter looks very nice.

  • @Janneke:

Yes:( I prefer him to her as he has a better length of leg to height ratio.

Ah yes… not good for you of course.. :( But Belle had a nice second place. I spoke to the judge afterwards and she told me she really liked the female puppies. (opposed to the male puppies :D ;) :p :()

Yes she said that she enjoyed the bitch puppy class and it was a hard decision between Belle and the other girl, she actually has a write up about the show on her website.

YOU NAUGHTY GIRL !!! Laughing at my little Bendji !!!;)
And no, I have put him on a daily 400 kcal diet but he remains on the heavy side … Maybe due to the lack of running opportunities he has were we live. But I arranged with Alain to visit the doggy yard 3 times a week instead of only once a week... this will help him burn the puppy fat more easily I hope. He has to be in top shape by the end of this month for he will be performing on his first show !!!

Chandu is very elegant looking, high on his legs compared to the other.

Hum, heard somewhere his feet are pointing outward … so he's not a match for Bendji hahaha:D
Just kidding. He's very beautiful indeed.:)

Hahaha.. yes.. better than crying about it.. isn't it ;)
    What show are you going?

    And.. no dog is perfect..

Edit: all B pics online in 5 minutes..

  • BOB guy IS more mature looking in the pic than Tillo…he also has "showy" markings, which make his shoulder angulation appear striking. He is a nice dog, I wouldn't feel bad about losing to him!

  • @Quercus:

I don't :) Only problem is.. we'll have to compete in our next show as well ;) :D

That's okay :) Different judge, different day! I think Mirtillo could beat him if a judge liked a lighter boned dog.

Yes, a couple of weeks ago when Tillo became BOB he did beat him.. so anything is possible ;)

I've tried bait and no bait in the ring. I think bait works better for Logan, but not for me. He likes it and responds to it well, but as a new handler it's a pain in the butt. I know what I'm expected to do. Doing it once in the ring is hard. I get caught up in the minute and then forget what I'm supposed to do the next. I once stacked Logan backwards on the table. D'oh! Logan is SUPER food driven and he knows if I have cookies in my pocket. That's all he'll pay attention to. Jumping on the handler is frowned upon. Yes, I know training and time will cure it. Not there yet. Too many hobbies. Showing, breeding, MGBs, stereos, astronomy, motorcycles, family, friends, travel, house, etc. I need more time.

@Roux I have to live with the dogs 24/7. The judge sees them for maybe 3 minutes. My preference tops his/hers !

@cashh - Just curious, did you have your dog excused? Typically it is because of being lame in the ring or not letting the judge to exam the dog?
