  • Hi, this is my first post of Basenji Forums. I live in Scotland and am due to collect my first Basenji puppy on 1st February. I have waited over a year for this puppy so i am really looking forward to finally having one. I already own two lovely Rhodesian Ridgebacks and have admired Basenjis for some time since they are all 'hounds'. I will be taking a lot of interest in your forum for help and advice with my new puppy.

  • Welcome! Be sure to share pics! I love Ridgebacks too! Yay Africa :)

  • Welcome and we look forward to seeing pictures of your new "baby" and hearing all about it as it settles into your home and heart.

Hello & welcome from a fellow jock, though living in Northern Irealnd at the minute:D
Be sure and put plenty pics up when you bring him/her home:D

What breeder are you getting him/her from?

  • Welcome to the forum! Can't wait to see pics of your rr's and b-pup!

  • Thanks for the welcome folks! I'm getting a boy puppy from a lady in Bedford, England. Zordia is the kennel. I will post some pics on as soon as i can. Our ridgebacks have really good natures and will love having a new boy around.

    Ah yes I know Val:)
    Look forward to seeing piccies:D

  • Welcome! I too have run Ridgebacks and Basenji's together. Good thing is they understand each others play because they have very similar play styles. Most RR's know how rough they can play with smaller dogs but you will still want to closely monitor for several months as your B grows so you can make sure there aren't any accidents from too rough of play.

Best of luck to your new addition!

  • Hello from Paris =) welcome to the forums, can't wait to see photos of your new baby. =)

  • Welcome to our pack! As you can see we're quite an international group but two things we have in common - we love basenjis and we're addicted to pictures of them :)

  • Welcome to the forum!

Welcome-Basenji's=two year olds (I want, I will get what I want, you can't make me, phthhht on you, did I do that?) Yeah, it's never THEIR fault, it's always yours. Unfortunately, I've been in your situation until it didn't work anymore and placed the one girl with my son and his girlfriend.

Admittedly Basenjis and sheep are a problem. Thank you for such friendly welcomes. I have had some Basenjis who I did eventually manage to 'train'!!? to be safe with sheep and could wander among them and occasionally help to herd, others (including my current pack are killers and can't be left to wander freely where the sheep are. We have a double gate system for visitors. There was a time when I could have taken them all out for walks together but now I take them 3 at a time and my whole day is taken up with exercising dogs. When I get the hang of my digital camera I'll post some piccies. Nomrdggs - I'm not sure I have kept my sanity!!!! Tanza - I have actually seen some of our original imports - and I have attempted to breed as close to the original type as I can. I bred my last litter 4 years ago.

Sorry, no, I'm in San Diego. But if you ever head South…:D It looks like there's a pretty active club up in your neck of the woods. Maybe they have meetups you could join? Not so much here, that I know of, though a lovely woman I met through Karen has 3 b's in a community near here. We have 2 basenji mixes in our neighborhood that we've discovered (your dog will find those for you if you take her to a dog park or a popular walking area). Congrats again - can't remember if your post said this was your first B, but aren't they just amazing?

Thank you for your reply Seko. Bandit is 11 weeks this Wednesday 6th Sept. When he turns around bearing his teeth and growling after being told off for being naughty, I point my finger at him saying a LOUD NO!! He doesn't like it, puts his ears back and looks at me. I have bought a clicker and will attempt to train him and my Lowchen "Alfie" together with liver treats. Wish me luck!! Angee
