  • I knew a dalmation that did that, nail fell off and there was another one underneath.
…but that's the only time I've seen or heard of that.

  • I've seen cats that nails shed but not dogs. What food are you feeding?

  • some raw some dry food
a mix of vegetarian formula and sevarl other wiht tuna, chicken carrot, beef
    turkey….
she chews alot so we give her real bones and assorted edibale chews..
her coat is amazingly smooth and soft and glossy so i dont think she is shedding nails becasue of her diet

@barklessk9: Zak is also shedding like crazy. :D He always blows his coat in February and occassionally in the summer, but usually not until Sept. I highly recommend the Furminator - it works great! Thank you so much. I bought a Furminator and it works great. I also bought the shampoo and daily spray. I also read an article which advises useing lanolin or a bit of olive oil on the coats of dogs that shed a lot. After several days it is supposed to help with the shedding.

I have it easy. Kananga stands in the tub while I scrub him. I've never needed to be with him while he gets his bath. He just likes to lick my hand while I rinse him off. He's extremely tolerant of baths. I noticed this helped when he was blowing his coat earlier in the year. I remember all of the hair that would come off of him.

@tanza: And ever notice how they shed just going to the Vet… :( Only my OJ doesn't do that... he likes his Vets...) Nala does too. I end up with a Basenji hair sweater just from holding her in the office and exam room!

I agree with having them removed! and I WISH I had done it. I, too, have heard of dogs getting injuries w/ the dews… they get caught. My own dog has caught his a couple of times, thankfully, nothing serious (yet). So if the dog is under anyways - I say go for it! and yes, I cut my dog's dew claws like the rest of his nails.
