Hi, my basenji and I recently moved back to LA from San Diego. I've already been back to SD twice to see my vet down there (Dr. Goetz at Animal Care Clinic is the BEST) but I really should find a vet up here. Can anyone recommend a great vet (who's familiar with B's) in the West LA/LAX/South Bay?

Somehow, this makes me glad I feed 'doodle' human-grade food. Tonight's dinner: shredded chicken breast, green beans and carrots, with a smidge of puree'd pumpkin. Spoiled, healthy, alive, (but most of all) loved.

There is a difference between "more and more ...getting sick" and more are reported thanks to internet/online reporting.

There is no evidence that raw diets are healthier (or as healthy even). In fact, with a dog with possible autoimmune issues, a raw diet could be dangerous and is something the owner needs to discuss with their vet nor veterinary nutritionist.

Exactly, it depends on the dog. Though, as I said, Sayblee got her major and championship at a svelt (for her) 22 pounds. Her ideal weight as she aged and muscled up more was closer to 24 pounds but we had a hard time getting her to eat.

Any vet who is not aware of the guidelines and titres isn't one who stays informed enough to be my vet. Any vet who PRETENDS they don't know and tries to push unnecessary vaccine– ditto.

Is there anyone out in the New Jersey area (or knows of a site that I can be directed to) who knows of any vets that have knowledge of Basenjis?

We have a 4 month old Basenji and our breeder took her to the vet at 8 wks but she hasnt been to one since so I've been looking for a good vet for a standard visit and cant seem to find one who knows about Basenjis (well all the vets Ive talked to, act like they know about them but you can tell they've never had one as a patient ;0
