Medicine storage

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • One problem I've faced with Stormie's Fanconi is the amount of meds he takes everyday and trying to keep them organized so I'm not counting pills twice a day. Currently, I'm sorting and counting pills once a week and putting them into Day Of The Week (w/ AM and PM sides) pill holders. Any other suggestions or ideas for med storage/sorting any easier/convenient?

  • Gee, I haven't thought that far ahead….I'd probably buy a few of those and count out a months at one time.

  • Tayda has just been diagnosed with Fanconi and I went and bought one of the pill organizers and put her med in there for the week. Its only day 2 but I'm hoping it will work. I'll just put aside a few minutes each weekend to organize the meds for the week….

Did she always have them or did they start after something/some time? Do antihistamines clear the problem?

@serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

@mryltis Read this comment from @morgansc within this post dated May 30, 2019, 7:49 AM. It answers your question. Ideally it is best to wait until age 24 months but no early than 18 months. https://basenjiforums.com/post/177284

@Ninabeana26: I use Sentinel for Dallas' heartworm meds & I give it monthly. He has only had 2 months so far but I have never noticed anything funny after giving it to him. I just place it in with his evening kibble & he's been fine every time. Sentinel is actually two medications in one. It has the active ingredient for Interceptor and the active ingredient for Program. It is supposed to protect against heartworms and fleas. If you are still having problems with fleas, I would seriously consider changing to Interceptor only so you are not giving your dog an medication that is not working and then look for a more effective flea control.
