  • Hi All! I've just found this forum, and couldn't believe it! It's such a great place! I've got two B mixes. One is mixed with a Jack Russell and the other with a Whippet. Their names are Foster and Ferret…..Foster, because he was a 'foster dog' that we never rehomed (because he was so darn cute we had to keep him!) and Ferret, well, he's called that because that is exactly what he looks like when he wraps himself into a little ball on the sofa.

I got Foster when he was a very small puppy when I lived in America and I've had him for about 7 years. When I moved to Australia Foster came with me, and whilst there I found poor Ferret at the local pound the day before he was due to be put down. He was about 3 years old or so, and I've had him for about 5 years now. As a rescue dog, he has had a lot of 'issues' and he has far more B traits than Foster does, so Ferret is quite the handful.

I've recently moved to the UK and of course the boys have come with me. They made a stop over in the states for a few months to stay with my parents while I was here sorting out a place to live that would accept pets. But they are here now and loving it.

  • Welcome! Those are some international B-mixes you got there! Looking forward to stories and pictures. Your boys are sure lucky to have you :)

  • Welcome to the pack. please post some pics of your beasties when you get a chance. :)

  • Wow, these dogs have more airline miles than I do.

  • Well here is a picture of the two Boys…..not a great photo (no curly tails to be seen!) but at least they are looking at the camera, which almost never happens! More on the way!!!

Hi, Josh! I am a fairly new Basenji owner and I agree with all the above posts, but I live in Gloucestershire so if you would like to meet my boy we could meet up?

Pat, you're absolutely right about Sally. As in the USA I think that most responsible breeders here have contracts which can include endorsements. When we talk about endorsements here we usually mean those placed on the puppies at initial Kennel club registration. These typically are 'Not to be bred From'. these endorsements can be removed at any time later in the dog's life. I don't know if you have that system there? Archaft, I can't see any reason to object to a puppy having it's papers endorsed. Its usually a sign of responsible breeders after all. Its no reflection on the prospective purchaser. I reiterate all that Kipawa has advised too. I would always advise prospective first time Basenji purchasers to visit Basenjis in their own homes where you can. Derbyshire is not all that far away from me and I welcome you to visit at any time to see Basenjis at home. I no longer breed so have no agenda only to ensure that people know what to expect from typical Basenjis.

@WriggleysMom: We've always had rescues and I feel like I've missed out on puppy antics, so I'm debating. Toby doesn't baroo or wag his tail and I really miss being met at the door with a welcome baroo and a tail trying to wag itself off!! I had a puppy and was getting the urge for another but now we have a 7-mo old foster and I can't take my eyes off her. I remembered I really did not miss that!
