Pity the poor folks who couldn't participate. :p

  • We are preparing for the Winter Holidays Basenji Buddies Gift Exchange. Details to follow in another thread.

  • I'm excited to do this again!

Shango and I sent ours out a few days ago so we're anxiously waiting until our basenji buddy gets their package,

Shango hasn't recieved his gift yet so we're anxiously waiting for that too! We look forward to come home and find a package on the door step. We can't wait!

  • So I came home this morning and there was a package waiting for us at the door! It must have come yesterday after I'd left for the day.

We hurried to open it up because we were so excited; boy did Jill and Tosca spoil my boy, Shango!

He was given tons of delicious treats and really great toys including an awesome stuffed bat that he already loves and a really great rubber ball that can hold some of his treats in it for him to hunt out. He also was given a great bandana to wear, which will be perfect for him to wear next weekend when we go do a dog walk!

I can't THANK YOU enough; you were more than generous to my Shango and he LOVES everything he's been given.

Here are pics for proof; these are all taken just minutes after opening the gifts. He played with everything immediately! THANK YOU SO MUCH JILL AND TOSCA!!! :)

Tosca, you should be getting yours any day now! ;)

Thanks guy, this has been a blast. We can wait for the next one!!!

  • I am so glad you and Shango liked the gifts! I am glad the stuffed bat worked as well, I tried to find a real Batman one, but no luck. Thank you for posting the pictures too, its so much fun to see him playing with the toys…and the bandana looks adorable :)

I agree, this was a lot of fun, and Tosca is very excited to get her gift too!

The bat is awesome and he's been playing with it all day! Really, you were very kind. Thank you so much for the gifts. Do you have camera capabilities? I'd love to see pictures of how Tosca likes her gifts! Heck, we'd love to see pictures of Tosca! :)

Mailed her gifts last week so they'll be there any day this week! Sit tight, Tosca!

  • Dallas received his package from LiveWWSD on Friday afternoon. He was so excited that he didn't want to wait for mommy to run to get scissors. He started pawing at the box! Haha. Anyhoo, here are the photos I took:

Checking out the Cheetah Stuffed animal…

Got him! Dallas certainly loves to hunt stuffed Cheetahs :p

Pawing at the cackling witch toy!

Shaking her around a bit. LOL

Sitting nice & pretty for a sweet potato treat! He, like Zaire, will actually LISTEN when I whip one of these babies out :p Thanks Daniel! These treats are a godsend!!! :)

Dallas loved the gifts & I have already put the sticker on my car which reads: "Wag more. Bark less." Haha. I appreciate everything, as does Dallas! He hasn't let that darn Cheetah out of his sight!

I can't wait for the next exchange!!!! :D

  • WOW I can't believe the post got that package across the country so fast, AMAZING.

So Glad Dallas enjoyed his gifts. This was SO MUCH FUN :)

Those Sweet Potato treats are my secret weapon when Zaire is refusing to listen. :D

I was shocked too because I did remember seeing when you said you were heading to the post office! I sent my from online, which is why I wasn't able to send a letter with it :( Stupid Petsmart. However, once you get the items I can explain a little more :)

I just tracked your package & it's in Washington state as of 9 AM. It says you will receive it by the 4th but I'd hope sooner if it's already in Washington!

  • Are those Free Range treats?!

Shango LOVES the Free Range Sweet Potato treats (if that's what they are!)

    :)

  • Sahara got her package today, and boy did she want to get into it asap. I think she could smell the bully stick, it is her favorite treat. Thanks to my basenji buddy that sent it our way, Sahara loves, loves the pumpkin, and the pigbelly. I have never seen one of those, and she just loves to throw it and run after, she brings it to me also to play fetch. The bone you sent is also a favorite treat of hers, haven't ever tried the salmon, liver ones. She loves liver and fish so I think it will be a hit also. Thanks again for being so generous, we truly appreciate your thoughtfullness. Treat my baby girl good, and it makes me smile, and happy. Hopefully I can get some pics of her and her box downloaded tomorrow.

  • I'm so glad Sahara got her box. We had so much fun picking out the goodies! :-) This was a REALLY FUN IDEA…and we can't wait to participate in the next gift exchange! (I'm already putting together some ideas!) :-)

Thanks again for Jackpot's treats...he sleeps with his zebra toy now! LOL

P.S. The Wellness treats are Jackpots FAVORITE! I hope Sahara likes them!

  • The guy at the post office told me that it would take only one day to get the package from Denmark to the US. I wonder how long it takes to get it arround in the US.

    Regards,
    Esther

@planetsaver said in Basenji for me or not ?: Will be a problem to leave him alone, let's say 10 days / month an average of 9 hours a day. Also I do not want to have to much trouble with the neighbours, but I understand he can make some noise sometimes, maybe he can be trained to stay alone and not to bark that much. Why would you even think about training a hunting hound to stay home alone ? I would never let my Basenjis alone for more than 4 hours, and even that is very rare. 3 hours is absolute maximum. Like @tanza, I have sold puppies into apartment environments as long as all other boxes ticked positive. Someone there all the time, proper attention to training, not just leaving the dog alone, especially not as a puppy. btw, he won't bark at all. As you would know if you had really researched the breed. He will cry and scream but not bark ! No. At least you are asking questions but I really think you should find another breed.

Last I heard, the Breed Club secretaries had more people waiting or wanting pups than were available . You could get on a list for a Basenji next winter but I very much doubt you will find one still unsold. Go to the website of the BCGB, or the Northern Basenji Society as you are in the North and you will find email addresses of the secretaries. They will put you in touch with breeders who may be planning a litter for puppies to become ready to leave the nest in about a year's time. Its a long wait I know, but you have most probably missed the boat for now. You are welcome to post me privately. Good luck!

@phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
