  • Hi and Welcome!

  • Hi and thank you all for the warm welcome. I tried to scan some pictures but it didn't work so i went out to day a got one of those new digitals. As soon as it's charged and i figure out how to use it I'll send pictures of Max. He is becoming very vocal so I guess he he likes it here and has decided stay. He greeted me with 2 very nice broo's today. He has also figured out how to take off the gentile lead and the easy walk harness. He must be part sled dog.
    Talk again soon,
    Steve

  • Hi! Welcome to the forum, my B, Sahara is also a red & white. My hubby, Sahara and I live on the coast of NC. We just love our B to pieces, she is the sweetest dog, and is also a family cuddler. She just wants to be where we are, like right now she is laying behind my back in my computer chair. I have to share with her, sometimes she gets on our neck and just cuddles up, but not as often as she use to do, she is longer and bigger now. She is almost 3 this January and I just found out through DNA that she is a Fanconi affected Basenji, from her Sire and Dam. Please have your B tested so you can be ready to treat if it has the dreaded Fanconi. There is a Protocol now for the disease and my Baby will have the best I can get for her is she does indeed develop the disease. She might not ever get it, I don't know, I just pray for her to be healthy. So take care and get those pics on here soon, Yea, we love Pictures!!!!:D

  • Hi,
My Max is 5 1/2 and all he wants to do is be near us. He sleeps with us and he's my second skin. Max is an exceptionally large B. He's 35 pounds of pure mussel.
    Pictures will be posted soon.

  • We will love to see photos when you can get them on line, and if you have any issues with your rescue b, we are here to help.
    Welcome!

I own five basenjis. Two yodel until you have a headache and my female barks. She always did. Short clipped barks. I also researched the breed before getting my first and she is an excellent dog. My third basenji was a handful. Three years later and he has stopped his destructiveness etc. It was a hard three years. Lol. You never know with a basenji. Greatest breed. Loyal, active, funny but some require ALOT of patience.

@suztor: Thanks so much for the feedback, I'm playing with a new camera lens and will be posting new pictures as soon as I can! funny that you mention rat. I've been doing research because she really doesn't fully fit the basenji profile but it turns out I'm pretty convinced she's a Rat Terrier mix but has very strong and big jaws that don't match…. I found an image of a rat basenji mix who's face looks very similar to hers.... So at the moment that's where I'm putting my money... Thoughts? and it doesn't really so much matter what she is as far as how much I'll love her (i've got that part down solid), but it's more so I can find the best way to train her

Welcome, from another Ohioan. We are on the north side of columbus and have 1 r/w boy. We have occasionaly taken him to the Westerville dog park but his behavior has not be great lately. We have cut back. We also help BRAT transport and foster. Great to have more B's in Ohio. I see so few of them in Columbus.

Hi Kiro, Welcome our neck of the woods. I live just a bit past Emmittsburg in PA so I'm not too far. The Mid-Atlantic Basenji Club meets at the Carroll County Agricultural Center right there in Westminster. Our next meeting is 1 June and there will also be a spring fun match that same day. It starts at 0900. There is a Yahoo group for the club that has info about the event. It's fun and games. It's really neat to see so many basenjis in one place. Hope you can make it. It's a nice club to belong to. Karen

Welcome Vanessa! We got Joey from a breeder at 10 months. Joey is really our first dog, had a weimaraner for 3 months, and we think Joey is the coolest! At first my husband said, that is a cat trapped in a dog's body, but I know differently. I had many cats over the years. My hubby thinks he is a great dog now. So do all the friends we had over for a party a week ago. They can't stop talking about him! We get so much enjoyment being with Joey and I love to hear my kids (5 teens) LOL when Joey is at one of his antics.
