Happy B Mamma

Basenji Talk
  • So we were going out of state today to have easter dinner with relatives. When i left this morning i put simba in his kennel. that was about noon. My husband got home from work about 6pm (he didnt go to dinner) and he called me and asked me if i had left simba out ( knowing that i never leave him out) i told him no. Some how he got his kennel door open and spent what i assume most of the day loose in the house. But i am soooooo Happy he didnt get into one thing, everything was just the way i left it. I was so surprised that he didnt tear stuff up. i at least thought he would have torn the garbage apart but no. i am so thankful i didnt come up to a torn apart house!:D

  • Yea, well, maybe you can b proof the house and leave him out with a nice chew toy.
My 2 b's sleep when I am gone.

  • How do you know they sleep when you are not there? :)

  • Laugh…because the couch is intact and the pillow still have their stuffing...
    giggle.

This is really funny. It should go into a basenji quote book. LOL!

  • What is really funny is when I came home one time way long ago and saw all these white things all over the living room…went into the family room and couch was totally gutted.
So, to be cute, I thru a throw over the whole mess, and cleaned up the carpet.
Hubby came home, dropped on the couch, and fell into the hole, to the floor.
    I roared...with laughter...he was NOT so pleased...
I wonder why he has stayed with me for 27 yrs???

  • Sharon,

I know why he has stayed. He really really loves the B's!!

I think that's what my B does as well. I swear every time I return, not a single thing is out of place. Not even his toys. He's usually stretching as I enter. He acts like he's just getting up from a nap on the floor, but I always can tell he's been sleeping on the couch (he doesn't know humans can sense heat). Funny how he hides that. :D

A coupple of issues in this thread! (Way to multi-task here people!) Treats: the whole "upset tummy" is definately a too much of a good thing issue. Whatever you decide to treat with, make them very small and just watch how much you give. My dogs go nuts for bologna or plain ham. Cheese is the perenial favorite, but never underestimate the power of a "Good Boy!!" Coats & "Cold" Weather: My boys have it rough. Living in the Midwest, it is not uncomming to spend all witner in the single digits (not counting windchill which often kicks us into the negative teens, if not worse). Both boys have dog coats made by Lands End in the same style (and cold weather specifications) as their Squall jacket series. It consists of an easy belly band and front chest closure meathod. No worries about tails or legs. Easy on, easy off. And my boys live in them during the winter. Dogs, just like people, quickly acclimate to the weather. If we deicde it's "Cold" at 50 degrees, they start to feel that way. If we decide 50 is downright balmy, the dogs learn that too. Walking: Oh, the perenial issue of B's! I agree with many of the posters here: it's all in the tone and your attitude. If you decide to be upbeat and positive and decisive, the B will follow! (But probably will quit at mile 6 if he hasn't had his ice cream yet… grin)

My heart seems to beat more each day and it's not always because I'm running after my B- Champ but because when I he comes home from a walk with Daddy and I've come home and surprise him, he walks up to me with his ears so far back I think they might actually touch. When he gives up after a nipping fight and pushes up next to me on the couch like saying I'm sorry ,you won Mommy. Because he lets me kiss him as much as I want whenever I want. Because when I make weird noises or stand in back of him looking in the mirror he moves his head back and forth like if he was saying what you doing now Mommy. He's such a terror but damn I love this little boy. Because after I had to put my toy poodle Nino to sleep(he will forever be in my heart) I thought i could never love another dog again and he has proved me wrong. ….Thanks I love this game.

All three pups sleep in bed with us. We bought two double beds and stuck them togeather so we could all fit. It's still crowded. My next dog IS going to sleep in a crate!
