Teething Stories

  • So here is my latest teething story. Does anyone else have good teething stories? If so please share. :)

So I was told by my good friend yesterday that he doesn't want to come over while Zaire is still teething….He was only sort of joking. I guess I grossed him out with her teething yesterday.

I was sitting minding my own business talking with my friend while Zaire and Charlie were playing. I think Charlie must have helped her get a tooth loose. She came running into the living room and started making that funny puppy face that means a tooth is ready to come out (Strange that no matter what breed it is, puppies all make that same funny tongue face when teething).

So far with Zaire I have let her pull most of her teeth herself (She seems to be pretty good at it). But this one was different. I feel bad, because I hadn’t really noticed that her back teeth had already come in this last week. So she had a baby tooth on the inside of her new back tooth, and couldn’t get at it. She started drooling and pawing at the roof of her mouth. Then she started trying to chomp on the loose tooth (what a horrible sound). To make matters worse (for me at least) she started whining about it. So needless to say I couldn’t stand by and not help my little one. So I sat her down with me and pulled out her tooth for her. As soon as it was out she was off to play with Charlie again.

Apparently this grossed my friend out. I told him “Just you wait till you and your fiancé have kids, you wont let them sit there whining about a loose tooth either”.

Funny what grosses some people out. :D

  • That is so funny! I don't remember Jack making any faces when he was teething, all I remember is that he was sitting on my lap chewing on a bone, he turned his head to the side and spit this bloody white thing into my lap and went on chewing his bone like nothing happened. Meanwhile, I thought that this was a sign that he had, like, doggie scurvy or something and all his teeth were going to fall out, and I would have to feed him oatmeal for the rest of his life and he was only 4 months old!!!!!!!! Hahaha!

  • OMG…. Doggy Scurvy...isn't that just fitting for a pirate like your Jack boy. :p

  • Lola's been teething recently & I guess Booger has been helping her keep her mouth clean so a couple times a day they jump up on a couch or bed & Booger holds her down on her back & puts his mouth over hers & licks the inside of her mouth. It looks like they're making out & you can hear their teeth clicking together.. its disgusting. But so far I've managed to get two of her teeth! A tiny front tooth & one of the larger back teeth. She has one remaining canine that's working its way out & I hope I can get that one, too.

That is so typical… my Mickii lives to "extract" puppy teeth!!!

  • Indi has been teething and he actually likes to CARRY his teeth around. He will make the teething face (kind of like hes tasted something bitter and is smacking his lips with his toung sticking out) finally get it out and spend the rest of his time picking it up, carrying it about 5 ft and spitting it out. Then if no one notices he will continue doing this untill we take it away. Its wierd, really wierd but when he is holding it you see his best show dog prance while he is walking around.

In addition to all of the above posts, there are definitely basenjis who will not be crated. I have one. Went through all the correct procedures trying to crate Shaye as a new puppy. We got her a wire crate, the right size, put a soft piece of our clothing in it, put it next to our bed at first so we could touch her through the bars - she screamed all the time she was in there, did her business wih her butt against the side so it would go outside, peed all over the place and sat in it, even though we were very slow and careful with it. The eventual result was she broke nearly all her baby teeth biting the crate, never calmed down in it, would not go in to eat, get treats or anything else. Her personality has never changed; she still backs off if she even sees crates other dogs are sleeping in. She is now nearly five, and she does not act like that when she needs to be kenneled at a daycare place, she seems to know it's different there, although if possible she will try to climb her way out at first. When she cannot, she will calm down and rest for the hour they put her in there during the day. Be patient, but if it just never works, so be it. Once Shaye got a little older and we got her a companion, she has been totally trustworthy while we are gone.

An agility dog is always an agility dog, no matter how old! And racers too I guess! None of mine are athletes but Nicky at 14 always amazes people, if you don't see her grey hairs or cataracts, you think she is much younger. Love the 'oldies but goodies'.

Well she wasn't so good yesterdy - she chewed on the arms of the chair in the living room. I was going to buy a new one anyway but I think I'll wait until she shows me she can be good everyday.

I have seen Mica when she goes on point with her tail straight out and her front and back paws CAREFULLY matching each step chatter her jaw - It kind of goes open and shut and wanders open and shut that way. She is like an arrow waiting to fly out of the bow onto the suspected target. She never stops that behavior, either. Than she makes a mad dash for the squirrel or critter and will do doggie-ups on the side of a tree - maybe 6-8 feet up the side than down. Than shell do it again just because she has to try again. I think she is getting some really strong chest muscles. I think it might me intense excitement and anticipation. Micas mom
