Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • @wullis:

Blood lines I am looking for are any Mitanni lines (the family line), Reveille Be Serious, Reveille Re Up, Levi, (Arizona dog don't remember the farm name)
Within the Mitanni line Lord Simba and Beguiling Miler would be a plus.

Re Up was a very heavily used sire and you will find him in the overwhelming majority of American pedigrees. He was born 40 years ago though so you have to dig deep to find him. Be Sirius was Re Up's son and Beguiling Miler was Be Sirius's daughter. Lord Simba is Miler's maternal grandsire. According to the database, it appears that the last progeny down from Lord Simba ended in 1994. He is no longer in the gene pool. You will find Re Up though. No doubt about that. Good luck to you. :)

  • LOL looks like Lisa and I were perusing the database at the same time. :p

  • I looked on zandes but I couldn't see how to link dogs with their breeders

That last litter you spoke of is the one my basenji came out of….. "Savage Intelligence"
but he was killed the year we were looking to get him a dam. The pups in that litter that are not champianed belong(ed) to family members as most of us didn't show and after dad died my stepmom never bred again. But there were supposed to be litters from some of the others. But I don't know how to track them down.

  • If they are not in Sally's database then they were probably never registered since she gets the AKC stud books to help keep her site up to date. If there is a kennel that you are interested in specifically and they are known in the basenji community someone on this Forum can probably get you the contact information.

  • Looks like there were two different litters with the same breeding. There are 4 registered with Birthdates on 1991 and 3 with birthdates of 1992. There is only one breeding listed and that is for Ch Allegro's Houligan Mitanni,SC (as the sire) and that was out of Khajah's Rainy Nite Serenade (and this bitch has a 1/2 sister that is by Ch Kenset's Wayfarer From Asbah), litter born in 1994 with 6 pups registered. All with the kennel name of Columbine, which I seem to remember, but can't place it…

You can not get the breeders from Sally pedigree site, only the dogs registered names and sometimes if a responsible breeder many of us will know the kennel names, just like my comment about Reveille, that is Damara Bolte.

  • Talk about a walk down memory lane - I would wonder about the dog CH Allegro's Houligan Mitanni as I seem to remember that there was some eye stuff (PRA) out of Houlihan and Blaze - I thought that many in the which way up were affected - or were thought to be affected - I remember getting a call since I had used Blaze as well and they were trying to track down where PRA might have come from.

I'll run your information by someone who has a pretty good head for tracking down pedigrees - I'll post it here or do a private to you if I find anything.

  • You know this question brought to mind a problem that all breeds run in to - Collective Memory. I know there are a few people that have been around and in basenjis for so many years they have an extensive knowledge base about the history of our dogs as a breed and about the times that predate many of our involvement.

If you are lucky enough to have a couple of these folks in your area - take time to talk to them about the breed to see what they know and how it could help you in your breeding program, and in your stewardship of the breed. It is important that this information be shared, preserved and passed on.

  • Unfortunately in Pa I don't know any basenji folks, though I have started talking to one breeder via email. In fact in the years I have been in Pa I have never seen a basenji. I never in a million years thought I would have ever been this far or this long from the basenjis. When my dog was killed I still had my coydogs, had to relocate, and my son was on the way and I thought when one of the family has a litter….....And now 11 years and alot of turmoil has passed. I want my son to enjoy that special bond and daily challenge that is a basenji.

Thanks for all the help folks, will keep you posted.

  • Basenji_Boy is in PA and he's got six of them

  • HAAHHAAHHA I saw that and sent him an email not ten minutes ago

    Great minds….......

All pups have been placed as responsible breeders have reservation lists. We are not at this time planning a litter for 2020 or 2021. I would be happy to talk to you about Basenjis. You can search for responsible breeders at www.basenji.org by state, however as far as I know all responsible breeders on the West Coast already have full reservation lists. You would be looking at litters possible in 2021. This is the time to connect with a responsible breeder and get on their reservation lists for 2021. And if you are looking for a dog that is hypoallergenic, Basenjis do shed and have dander so they are not really hypoallergenic. While they can do well with people with allergies, you need to spend time with them and more than one time. Be sure that you check out health testing yourself, regardless of what you might be advised. Tests for DNA testing is public knowledge at www.ofa.org. You need to have either a registration number or name to check this out for yourself to verify. I suggest all people looking for a Basenji, even my own, do this.

@liz-falzone Not sure if you are one of the 60 or so would-be Basenji puppy purchasers who has emailed me privately - PC is in the hospital and I am working on my laptop so can't access the list. But that alone does tell you a great deal ! I haven't bred a litter for 12 years now but am still getting enquiries - current breeders are also inundated. We have been weeding through enquirers, putting many people off this challenging breed if they should perhaps look elsewhere, and filling lists of known 2020 winter breeders. Many have been accepting visitors and establishing a relationship. And have closed lists. But breeders this winter seem to be holding their cards close to their chests, Rescues have been rehomed and Breed Clubs don't have many intended pairings listed. I may be able to help but need to know a great deal more about you - location, knowledge of the breed, children, working from home etc. My email addresses are on the websites listed in my signature bloc

My gut feeling is if you can't find a dog who is utterly good with cats already, your best and safest bet is a puppy. I suggest you get on a couple of breeder's list and wait for the perfect pup for your house.

His back pasture used to be used for raising miniature goats, so yes the whole thing is fenced with chicken wire all the way around. While that was nice I still had my guy on a hugely long horse lunge line. My little guy knows come.. sometimes, but not well enough for me to trust him completely off-lead in that large of an area, its about..18 acres? Since their youngest boy is too old for 4H projects they sold off the goats and cows. now the field is just used for some hunting. They raise some of their own game birds like cotornix quail and chuckars. And well, the rabbits (wild) are all over that back field. I let my little guy "hunt" a few of them, never let him get one though. and if anyone can let loose their B with a rock solid come, they need to fill us all in. ~Charlene
