Blue happens when there is an absence of red pigment. Some breeders try for them - Nocturnals for one. I think there was a move towards 'mahogany' too, a couple of years back.

I relate to all that! But you should know that Juliana was anything but an authoritarian figure. She loathed protocol and regulations, had pacifistic inclinations, and was considered by many to be a true 'mother to the nation'. I'm pretty sure she didn't go to obedience class with Zarah…

@barklessk9: Where are you located in Michigan? I am in the Lansing area. I have seen a few B's over the years and each time I rubber-necked and then pulled the car over to jump out and talk to the person. I probably look like a loon, but I can't help myself with B's! Linda Hi Linda from Lansing. We're in Livonia! I wanted to pull over - but didn't because of the thought I'd look like a loon too! Next time I will, if I ever get another opportunity. The few times I've seen other Basenjis was by intention - a plan to meet up with a couple owners through this forum and at Pet shows.

Interesting, I email a person on nextdaypets about their Basenjis for sale, and to their credit they did do Fanconi testing.. however their puppy prices are based on color… I asked her how come and she said that the color that sells the faster is the highest price.. sigh... so much breeding to improve the breed.... and not for a cash "crop"
