    Hello all…as some of you know I will be adopting our 2nd Basenji this Sat. The sad news is that her foster mom just told me she had to take her to the vet last night due to bleeding diarreah. I'm sure some threads on the great forum contain info but I am crazy here at work and really don't have time to check through the threads. can anyone help me with info on what this could be?:confused:

    I think I'd put off bringing her home until you find out what is going on.

    Do you know any other symptoms? Was the blood bright red or dark?

    Dogs with Parvovirus will have bloody diarrhea, which you would not want to bring into your home.
    Or it could be injury, kidney or liver disease, or an infection in the intestinal tract. Any number of things, really, some serious, some not so serious.

    thanks…can't believe she's ill....the foster mom says the vet thinks it's worms but will know more later. I worry because someone I know got a dog through BRAT and the dog ended up with a serious deadly disease. It was severe diareah, anorexia, dehydration, vomiting, etx. After 3 hard years they just put him down. Very sad!

    It could be something serious…but it could be something simple too. Some dogs will get a little bloody mucous in their feces if they have loose feces for any length of time. If the intestines get irritated they will produce mucous, and if they get irritated enough there can be some bleeding. Hopefully this girl is just having some intestinal upset because of all the changes, or maybe worms, as that is easily treatable.

    I would definitely wait to see how things unfold in the next few days.

    I would say that must be VERY rare. Sounds like the dog maybe had IPSID?

    I do hope she's O.k. We all have our hearts set on her. I guess it could be stress. Aside from her last home, she's been moved around to 2 foster homes in 2 weeks in order to make travel easier. Plus in the first foster home the mom had just had hand surgery so it was difficult for her to care for another dog.

    Poor little thing. I hope she's ok. Yes–bloody diarahea isn't necessarily serious--but it is awful scary. Hopefully, the odds are in her favor, and it's not anything serious. But if she has anything--it's probably best to get that cleared up before brining her home if possible.

    yes I spoke to the coordinator and she will let me know as soon as the foster contacts her. We're praying she'll be fine. Crazy how we love her already and haven't even met her

    I know what you mean–I had my heart set on Tyler and Zoey after I saw their picture on the rescue site. Then I met them and had them checked for Fanconi before picking them up to bring them home--but I told the rescuers not to worry--that no matter what the results, I was taking them and would provide whatever care was needed. Everything has worked out just fine, and I hope things work out for you, too.

    Yes it is. Her test came back negative and she is in great helath. Very playful just like my first so we will be picking her up Sunday….HOORAY!!!

    Excited is not even the word. Her foster dad told me she's a nonstop playmate which is exactly perfect for our B. Alittle high maintnance and snobbish..lol…They bought her a sweater and she prances around the house looking all conceited ...too darn cute!!!

    I remember when I first adopted Champ and all the issues and concerns I had with this "magnificant, one of a kind, crazy breed" and now here we are getting all ready for #2. They are so special plus Champ is really crazy about other dogs so we are really doing this for him.

Just the thought makes me want to keep feeding my girl human grade foods. Yeah the same here, her research indicated that raw chicken wings were the optimal food and contain pretty much everything needed. I guess if you think of some of the processed crap they have in supermarkets trading as food for humans you can imagine how low the bar can go for pet food.

    @serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

    So happy to hear your boy is comming home and doing well. Has to get better so he can go find another kitty again. I do know Jaycee does not like change we took the sofa out and it upset her bottom end that night better next day. Then fourth day we got new sofa and upset her that day again and now all is well. I would try putting his crate back in your room. Take care. Rita Jean

    They said that there is a overgrowth of Bacteria, which is common in some dogs. So I can either give him some yogurt or a med that they are giving me, as Medjai is a very picky eater. I just figured this would be easiest for now, but I'll try yogurt next time.
