Coursing Brag

Basenji Training
  • This weekend there was AKC lure coursing in Gilroy, CA hosted by the Bay Area Rhodesian Ridgeback Club. The basenji entry was kind of small, 2 Opens, 5 Specials, 2 Vets on Saturday and 1 Open, 4 Veterans, 2 Vets on Sunday.

On Saturday, Sophie, won the Open Stake, my mom's boy Cole took 3rd place in Specials, and Nicky won the Vet Stake. Sophie won Best of Breed for a 5 point major! On Sunday, Sophie was the only Open and got a the high score of the day, Cole won Specials, and Rally won Vets. Sophie took BOB again for her second 5 point major! This brings Sophie to 11 points and both her majors for her AKC field championship.

We also learned that Rio thinks that flat well manicured fields are boring. She had a couple of good runs but she just doesn't have the enthusiasm on the flat fields that she has on the natural fields.

  • How exciting! Congrats :)

  • Way to go Sophie!!!!

  • Congrats Sophie & Mom! :)

  • I somehow missed this post until now but congrats to all the Kinetic crew!

Normally the clubs have practices after the Saturday trials. Unfortunately none of the clubs in our area have separate practice days. You might also think about going to some of the lira meets for straight run practices. The schedule is at lgra.org

@Quercus: I would probably do that. But the benefit to taking them each to class is that they learn to do the behaviors in a distracting environment. The flip side to that is how on earth would you be able to train both dogs at the same time in the class? LOL!! I was thinking that my son would come with me and train Daisy, while I train Duke. Duke is the toughest student - REALLY spastic. Everything is a distraction. Daisy is much calmer. So I should bring Duke to class and then go thru the same training exercises at home with Daisy. I agree that training in a distracting environment WITH instructor's help is best. But, yeah - I should save some $$ and only take one. Gasoline prices are killing my budget!
