Old Puppy pictures

  • This is a wonderful thread. The pups have such a short window of time to be that cute until they're full grown. All these pictures capture them at their most precious moments. Who doesn't like to see them puppies? They all look so sweet!

I forget how aweful Duke used to be when I see him that young in pics now. He was SO MOUTHY, that I cringed at coming home to be his mommy. But I did, because I'm the one who claimed responsibility for him. Soooo glad we got past that stage. Still a bit spastic at 1.5 years. Were anyone elses mouthy? Or was I the only one with hands of pain from puppy's uncontrollable urge to maul with razor teeth. :o

  • Sahara use to be mouthy as well, and even today she will try to get my attention by mouthing my hand. In the beginning I had scratches and marks so bad, on the wrist as well. She has pretty much stopped, but there are days, I go after her with a water bottle now. She has started getting my writst now when I try to get her to not follow me in the bathroom when I take my shower. She actually had my wrist the other day and started growling real loud, well I let her know that was not accepted at all, looked straight in her eyes, grabbed her and said no. I gave the command to sit and when she did I rewarded her with rubs and kisses. She is one controlling bitch, haha!!!!! Love the pics of Duke as a puppy, I would have taken him as well, so cute!!!!!!

Aww, thanks Y&T. I remember taking the pics, but not being totally sold in heart for him yet because of the mouthing. But…he's still here and we threw away the key.

Yeah, as with your Sahara, he's still a bit of a spaz (sp?), and it is annoying, but you have to let them know their behavior isn't acceptable. And me too, they get loving all the time anyway.

  • They are all soooooo cute. I feel puppy fever coming on!!!

Not as often as he used to, but he still does it once in a big while, and then he tries to dive under the couch like he used to, but instead he just slams into it because he is too big! haha

@Nemo: The local municipalities generally determine the number of pets that are acceptable within their juristiction, not the state. My experience it is usually up to 2 dogs and/or two cats or some combination thereof. Often rural areas or towns are more likely to allow more. A couple I knew were suckers for stray animals and at one time they had about 6 dogs and 7 cats. It was a challenge for them to find a place to live and they had to move out to the country. Althought that is an extreme example. I'd probably have about 3-4 dogs if I could, but that isn't going to happen unless I move. I live somewhat in the country in Maine and after you posted about only being able to have 2 dogs, I decided to call my town office. The first 2 people I talked to laughed…like the question was ridiculous. Then I called the code officer. He didn't know the answer but thought it was a great question and needed to call me back after he looked into it. For my town, I can have 5. Any more than 5 and I have to apply for a kennel application. FWIW, there was a huge problem with a puppy mill in a town about 45 minutes from me. A responsible basenji breeder (BCOA member and not a BYB) who had 7 b's as pets (hasn't bred in a couple years) was put thru the wringer by ugly neighbors because the town passed a new ordinance (after the puppy mill was broken up) limiting the number of pet dogs. This b owner had the dogs long before the puppy mill ever came to light. After a huge fight with the town, she has since been grandfathered, but needs to register as a kennel if she decides to breed another litter.
