    CROSS-POST FROM BRAT-CHAT

    Bessie got out of Jason Marr's yard today. He still has not found her and welcomes suggestions. Cold, nasty weather is headed their way as it has been freezing rain and sleeting in IL for a few hours now. It is already raining there.

    Also - Bessie's BRAT tag ID is 2795.

    He plans to post fliers tomorrow. He has contacted AC and is searching.

    I hope he finds the dog. I wouldn't worry too much about the cold/crappy weather. Basenji's are so cute and charming they typically get scooped up and given a place to stay right away!

    That's why I probably would worry - remember the lady in CA who lost hers? Someone probably picked it up and took it home. If Bessie had a collar tag on, then I hope whoever finds her does the right thing and if she didn't have her tag on I hope she is returned anyway.

    Follow up: I read on another list that Bessie is home, a woman found her the day she was lost (going up an expressway entrance ramp) and has had her, saw one of the signs posted in a CVS and contacted the owner. So she was safe and inside all the time, lucky little dog. It was actually the first sign the owner posted!

    Check out Spring Willow Kennels! That's where we got our Basenji, Remus, from Laurie and she was great. She's not far from Cleveland!

    All the update from her owners was on FB… she is out of surgery and the leg repair was great... she is doing well and will go home with Karla tomorrow afternoon! And yes, I would have posted sooner, but seems the site was down for a bit this morning

    I read your blog and find it kind of confusing and ….. your comment about "messing with ..." hmmmmmmm.... Anyhow, yes, it is so cool when you come across another basenji, because they totally understand each other and how they want to play. We were fortunate once to have another basenji play chase with Kipawa at a dog park. I just don't think there are many basenjis in the Lower Mainland. :(

    @Thana: she does have basenji characteristics then apart from her colours and looks.- i also think she must have some basenji blood! She is lovely and lucky no matter what! adorable little face:))))) Having read about the characteristics I think she does. The lady with the basenji that we met also commented on some of the things she was doing as "very basenji" (eg. standing on her back legs so she could see what was going on). Has a lovely wrinkly forehead too. Got very frustrated with me earlier and did her funny bark, more of a wierd howl really. She is def one of a kind. Its a shame we have to have her spayed (not that I could ever justify letting her have a litter).

    My Rue is pretty perfect. She is mixed with something (I don't know what) so she doesn't look like a real B… and she isn't interested in anything in our house (chewing wise), doesn't bolt out the door, and licks like CRAZY! She also doesn't really like to play with other dogs at the dog park, she just smells them, occasionally chases them, then comes back and lays down by me (EXERCISE DANG IT!). The only normal B behaviors that I see in her are the little noises that she makes (she makes a lot of them for different reasons) and her BAROOOOOOO (which is fitting because we named her Rue before we even knew she was a Basenji) and it seems like she is stubborn about sitting. It's like she is saying, "yeah I know you want me to sit, but first I'm gonna spin around in a circle. Then maybe I'll sit if I feel like it." Haha! She is a character!

    I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
