How Often is too Often when it Comes to Bathing

    My basenji Griffin loves to go to the dog park, so we try to take him there at least once or twice a week. We love the park too because it tires him out for a good 24 hours. He LOVES to chase and be chased by the other dogs. The only problem is that he gets pretty dirty - both from the dirt and other dog's saliva. We've been averaging about one bath every two weeks because of the dog park visits. And if we go twice a week - we usually give two baths. Is this too much? If so, what else can I do to clean him after these dog park visits? When we bathe him, we use an oatmeal dog shampoo. He hasn't been experiencing any dry skin, so I think it's okay so far.

    Hey, if it works for you.. and he is not had any problems with dry skin… I would say you are doing fine....

    Ditto what Pat says…

    I use wipes too..it's sort of quick wipe down bathe if I'm lazy :D Kind of like a human sponge bath :D :D :D

    It's a judgment call really on the bathing. A little saliva here and there just use the dog wipes. Mine used to get their feet/legs really muddy chasing rabbits in early spring so I just take a wet wash cloth and clean them off. If they rolled on on a smelly dead seal at the beach it's automatic bath.

    During the summer I bathe my dogs every couple of weeks – more if I feel they need it. I use a protein/lanolin shampoo by biogreen, and we've never had a problem with dry skin; leaves their coats so shiny and soft, and doesn't smell funky like some dog shampoos do.

    @tanza I don't believe there was a limit to the number of letters, though I wasn't paying much attention to whether the field stopped me from continuing. Tanza is nice! I was actually surprised no one has claimed the name :D

You are right. Most of what I do as a "moderator" is banning people who create profiles for commercial websites to improve their Google rank. I feel like if I kick them off right away, they won't bother us with inappropriate posts. I have banned over 2,000 profiles (so far), looks like I have 3 or 4 more to tend to today.

    @tanza I'm definitely attending the next show as a recon trip. Not sure how the work here but if they're similarly easy to enter as the ones in the US, I do want to show Roux! LOL that's a hilarious saying; I absolutely appreciate a smart lady over cluelessness haha :face_with_tongue:

    When we were showing, baths were done the night before we left for each show. Now, they get two a year, once when the coats are shedding and the other right before cold weather is going to start. Of course, the muddy situations sometimes occur and that throws in another one or two a year. But they are such clean dogs, they pretty much take care of it themselves. But when we had pups did bathe more frequently until each accepted it as a matter of course.
