Bully sticks…

Basenji Talk

  • :D Ok so I have seen on this site that rawhide = bad, bully sticks = good…so out of curiosity and care of my dogs health I went to the specialty pet store and asked if they had some. I also asked what they were made of  now I wish I had not, because now they are sitting on my living room carpet and all I can think about is what they are lol...as long as the puppies like them I guess it's all good. I also got a few other parts that the lady suggested. They came in a mix bag, so if you have any suggestions of which parts to just throw out let me know, a few I have seen so far in there are pig snout, cow ear, esophagus, thendons, etc...They seem to be happy with their new treats, and so will the chairs and carpet lol. Oh and all the treats are Merricks brand, so I trust they don't have any of those funky perservatives like formaldehyde in them

Yea I googled them like 2 days ago out of curiousity because people on here have recommended them to me. I was a bit shocked too…and kind of grossed out :p I plan on getting some for Dallas this weekend so let me know what your kiddos think of em!

  • oh geez, they love em!!! and I got the tendon ones too made by Merricks…Nike had to start eating it on the way home, and when it was time to go in the house he wouldn't let go, so needless to say they were a hit, I just have to forget what they are made of lol

Some of the rawhide is OK… the compressed ones I have used lots....

  • The hoofs I can not stand, they smell horrible. Sahara loves bully sticks, I pick out the largest one in the box and cut it into 3 smaller pieces. They are pricey and then feeding her Merrick's dry and wet food makes for a big bill when I am done shopping. I have to make them last, but I do not buy the hoofs anymore. Sahara has had alot of the Merrick's chews and I must say she likes them all, the bully sticks last the longest.

  • I'll probably pick up some bully sticks this weekend. I prefer to give him something to chew on while we are eating dinner but nylabones seems to go too quick! If you give them a bully stick does it last longer than a nylabone/greenie?

  • well so far so good, they are pretty pricey but they do last longer than the greenies. They both started on one last night and it's still around this am, and I mean they were chewing on it all night (ahhh a moment of peace lol). Nylabones last very long here becasue I buy the durable kind, the flexible ones just get chewed up in 2.5 mintues, and I am scared they'll swallow the pieces.

  • I was checking online for some (the nearby stores here don't carry them) and also found a related item called pizzle sticks - described as "the other part" Any thoughts about the pizzles compared to the bullys (they are a little cheaper)?

  • I buy in bulk from Bullysticksonline.com, you have to buy a lot at one time but the price is good and the quality is excellent (no odor). If you can share an order with a friend or two it isn't too bad, winds up being about $3.50 for a "deluxe" 12 inch stick. I used to cut them in half, but now I leave them whole, as I take away the last inch or two, I realized I was wasting some. I buy a box about once a year, and give them out every week or so.

@DebraDownSouth: Becca I can ask them and get back with you. I know the owner :) I could also send you a handful and if your guys like them, I can then, just let me know. Sorry Debra, are you talking to me? My name is Kristen…...Becca is my female's name! LOL. I emailed them yesterday and am waiting for a reply. Thank you for your kindness. I would really like to get a bag, I know the dogs here would really love them!

Well, the lab I mentioned (chocolate overweight one) almost took me out by slamming into my knee. I commented loudly " he better not insure my knee!" No comment from the owner. Others were keeping an eye on this over exhuberant dog too. Many peeps were standing behind a bench for protection. What really bugs me is that the park has very visible signs when you enter it that say you must have control of your dog.

EL D will occasionally sleep partly on the pillow (when I'm not in the bed). Usually though he sleeps totally under the covers (actually his own sleeping bag on the bed).

@torchsong: Yeah, there's been no wounding, but the in-laws are just worried about the bullying. I'll let them know what you've said here. The pot shots are funny…the schnauzzer waits until She-Ra walks off and then does an "Air Jordan" type jump at her back, which of course starts the chase all over again... Sounds perfectly normal to me

They are funny little dogs. When my boyfriend and I are messing around Alani will do a really loud short Baroo to him. She's always on my side it's awsome.

I knew that Ringo was in the right home for him when in one of the updates his owners wrote to say that he was a wonderful dog and the only problems they had had so far was he would steal socks and underwear and chew on the potted plants but they couldn't complain because those were just normal basenji traits.
