    Most Bs that have white on them have spots..as a matter of fact the Basenji club we belong to has a contest each year on who's got the most spots & the strangest LOL :D

    My dogs are eating grass too…they don't know any better lol! And sometimes they will make themselves vomit when they've had too much...little buggers! :D

    Do they get more spots with age? I was noticing int lots of the pics posted that they have freckles. I was thinking some might be "age spots" like humans sometimes get. Does anyone know? Nala has some freckles, but I was wondering if she was going to ge more…

    Dash has several spots and occasionally eats grass. I think they just like to eat it.

    Now we have soething alike my B and I. We say at home he has my husbands forehead (my H likes to frown when he's in deep thought), my daughter's ears (she dosen't find that one funny) and now he has freckles like his mom..lol

    luzmery, if you basenji is shaking there are a lot of things it could be….it was one of my signs that my basenji suffered from IPSID along with another disease.

    she appeared to shiver like after a bath for no apparent reason. this was her way of dealing with pain. if yours does this, try feeding your basenji boiled chicken for a while and see if it stops. it is a good way to rule out the dog food.

    eating grass can mean an upset stomach. my girl ate grass to make herself throw up because she had the above mentioned problem.

    My boy b ate grass because other animals peed on the grass and it must taste great. eating grass is bad because it can transmit giardia which is an intestinal parasite that causes diahrea. both of my basenjis have had it and meds can fix it.

    super easy to catch from dog parks, stray cats, dog walks....standing water outside.....mine always get it from eating grass...

    a doctor can take a sample of the poop to test for it giardia.

    shoot, it could be the AC...my basenjis are very temp sensitive....love it hot, hate it cold....

    Thanks Basenji boy but no ac yet and the chicken, well our B is allergic so we give him ivd-rabbit. Yeah it's like the shakes after a bath, dosne't last long abount a few minutes and he usually does this when he's laying down.

    Senior B who is not eating at all

    Unfortunately for us Maia has never done well with chicken, she loves it and eats it but it gives her diarrhea and seems to mess up her over all health. We did blood work again and her liver enzymes decreased by 30% which is great! Her actual health though is not so good so that is bad. We can get her to eat which is good, but the food control is not great salmon, ham(boiled a few times to remove the salt), breaded cauliflower, Mac and cheese. Whatever we can get her to eat. It’s crazy! We have her booked with a chiropractor to check her nerve function and we are ready to get prednisone going if it is ibd. We are working closely with our vet daily, she currently is on metronidazole and amoxicillin and gabapentin. Thursday I thought we were going to lose her and she has rallied. I hate optimism as I don’t do well with a broken heart but I am hoping for the best right now. She is on 2 billion probiotic per day as well. Every bite of food I can get into her I think, ok 1 more day at least. If I have to spend all day hand feeding her, I will. She is finally sleeping and twitching a little less! She is going up and down stairs ok, not great but ok and she is no longer falling over. We are far from out of the woods but I have seen some small improvements. Thank you all for your words, encouragement, advice and stories of what you have gone through. It is tremendous to me how kind you are. Thank you for taking some time out of your day and trying to help! We so appreciate it. Mai Mai means the entire world to us and every word, suggestion, or story we take into account and thank you so much for being such a loving wonderful community. With lock down and a sick pup we feel quite overwhelmed, so thank you!

    Just shared a chicken nugget snack with both boys. Meds for the B- we split a 20mg tablet of Predinisone, for a morning/night dose,he's about 32 # now, gaining weight, eating and drinking lots. The other dog has been on regular meds- potassium bromide, gabapentin, and phenobarbitol. That regimen has yielded good results, but predictable- he'll still have 1 or 2 episodes a month. I've already worked out tentative plans for an endgame. Known a mobile vet doc and friend for years, I'll call on her when the time comes- she's helped in the past with a GF's kitteh. Planning a nice fish/bacon whatever dinner, and a heavy dose of probably gabapentin to sedate him. Then the euthanasia procedure. Then a large rock for me to crawl under. Allow me to share a quote.     @debradownsouth said in B with diabetes: Dogs get type 1, cats generally get type 2. While you're correct that dogs usually get Type One and cats Type 2, either can get either. Bummer regardless. :disappointed_face:

    Typically I have also advised those with dogs that 'appear' to have fanconi but are not basenjis or are mixes - to also have their vet fax the labs to Steve Gontos - he seems to have a handle on the chemistry of the disease in general that is helpful to those no B people

    I have problems with all other dogs but Basenjis. At first I got a little alergic at nights (because she claimed my bed) but after a while your body gets used to it and you don't have any issues anymore.

    Gosh - Hope the vet helps Senji feel better. Duke gets a bath whenever he gets dirty - in summer, once a month. He's 1 yr. old. Right now, being winter - he doesn't get dirty because the ground is frozen. I don't know what would be a normal bath schedule for Basenjis. Sending a big wish to Senji for healing health.
