Can everybody…

  • …say a little prayer? Querk, Ivy and Blondie are at the vet today getting dentals, and Querk is getting neutered.

One of the techs just called me to ask if Querk had a four ft. or six ft. leash...because apparently he chewed it up while waiting for his procedure, and she wanted to make sure she had it all :o

  • Good thoughts going their way…ggg... and leave it to a Basenji to make a shorter leash....

  • Consider it done. They should throw in a free x-ray to make sure, since it happened on their "watch". I'm sure all is okay… Please keep us posted.

  • Thoughts and prayers for you, Querk, Ivy and Blondie. It will work out fine, but a little stressful on the nerves.

Extra special gentle hugs for Querk.

  • Every little bit helps, thoughts and Prayers Andrea.

  • Positive thoughts & Many Prayers for your fur babies Andrea I'm sure all will be ok :)

  • Warm fuzzy hugs from us to your furbabies Andrea. Hang in there furmom, they will be okay. :)

  • Good thoughts, prayers and doggie kisses from my furbabies to yours.

  • Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers. All dogs are home now, and happily snoozing. Between the three of them, they had several extractions :( but at least their breath will be better :)

  • Sorry to hear they needed several extractions. If they are like Nicky was after his teeth cleaning they will be eager to get into trouble once they are past the tired stage. He was like a puppy getting into all sorts of mischief.

yeah, for some reason my dogs have really cruddy teeth :( Maybe it is our water? I am going to try that oxyfresh and see if that helps some.

here's hoping for no more than the usual mischief ;)

  • Glad mom & babies are all doing well…:)

  • Mine have cruddy teeth too… and it could be the hard, hard water... or in the case of OJ it is genetic as all the dogs from his Dam have terrible teeth... and he would always have extractions and so to the point that they just fell out by themselves....

By the way, I tried the oxyfresh... no real help.... And OJ too, after a teeth cleaning, he was like a baby pup again, which told me that his teeth were bothering him....

@TikaLynn: I think Basenji's just are very alert dogs, and at night there is a lot of "activity" outside we may not see, but they do! I think that's a big part of it. As they say, "ignorance is bliss". Basenjis are certainly not ignorant when it comes to their surroundings. I noticed Kananga always has his ears back when we're outside at night, or certain times during the day. He can sense something and it makes me nervous at times. :o But this is what makes them great hunters and generally great at surviving out in the open. They are smart, and with that comes anxiety since they are aware.

@Kingsley1230: I am definitely wondering the same thing about lilu(B mix), she is 3 1/2 months old and she is already 7 kilos….looks like shes gonna be a big gurl! The fact that she is a mix, you never will know how much she will grow or how big she will get…. as they say, what you see is what you get...

@sharronhurlbut: My basenji girl always shows me up. When I am walking the dogs, folks come over and say "oh, are those the barkless dogs?" My girl ALWAYS gives one of her warning BARKS when they say this. Laugh. I tell the folks yes, they are barkless, except for my girl! So, then discussion starts, and I explain how they are not MUTE. But my girl gets me everytime! That's so funny considering we have the opposite experience. Manny baroooos like crazy at home but when we're in public and we want him to do it, he doesnt. Go figure. They have a mind of their own.

@sharronhurlbut: Please make sure you strip test your basenjis one a month. If you see a lot of water drinking/peeing, please get the strip tests out and test again. These poor puppymill dogs are not from quality breeders and their health is so much in doubt…. So, strip test, and if you get a puppymill dog get them tested for fanconis. Knowledge is power. For sure everyone should be strip testing.. and better yet, consider doing a DNA Test for Fanconi…. and if you are strip testing... consider doing it more than one day, once a month.. consider doing it 3 to 4 days in a row per month...

My Jala came from a similar situation. :( The breeder just wanted to flick her off after having showed and bred from her because her home situation changed. I mean, it's sad, but happens. It just makes me love Jala more. :)
