    Having Cairo as a new basenji member of our family has been such a blessing….The second puppy is sooooo much easier than the hair pulling first puppy experience.

    They hang together, play together, scream at each other when they are tired, and are quite a duo. I can't wait to see what new dynamic Cairo will bring to the pack on Sunday when he goes for the first time.

    I wonder if Caesar will be protective, playful or just ignore Cairo? I am sooooo excited and glad that Cairo is part of my every day!

    I am dorky! LOL

    Getting a second "B" is a good move! I think they do best in pairs(or more:)
    They have a pal to go through life with….. mine get pissed at each other mutiple times each day, but when one can't find the other for whatever reason, they get seriously worried.....

    The comedy factor with more than one is pretty good too. Just when I think I've seen everything they do they amaze me with another gem.

    Our Willy and Jasper are 4 months apart and it wasn't hard at all raising those guys…....Penny and Raven helped. When we had our first(Max) as a pup, we where wondering just what kind of wacko dog we brought home.:eek:

    I can imagine the same wonder with Duke. Only thing that sets this statement apart is . . . We did not know what breed Duke was. I am still amazed and in admiration with this breed. In the very least with Daisy, we knew what we were getting into. Both my babies are B-mixes. They are all Basenji with some differential qualities. But my love for their personalities mesh perfectly with this forum. They are "amazing". I am sure I've said it numerous times.

    Max seemed so full of energy he didn't know what to do with. B-500's, the digging to China without end…....he needed something. Cleo answered that for us and I'm convinced two is easier than one. With what I know now if I was going to start over, it would be two pups, male, female.

    I have to admit I'm jealous. I keep giving my husband the speech about our B needing a brother or sister and he just looks at me and calls me crazy. Yes our B is a handful…100 handfuls but giving him a buddy to hang out with and play with (the dog way, nipping, scratching) I think would make him so happy. I'll just live through all of u, until that is we get a new house.

    When Caesar was out of the puppy crazies, and about 1-1/2 yrs old he started becoming destructive. I would play with him, but he needed more play that my exhusband and I could give. That is when we adopted Beta and it was heaven afterwards!! I miss her dearly.

    2 is far easier than 1.

    I remember meeting the Mac pac with their 3 basenjis when Caesar was crazy puppy and thought to myself, "how do they do it with 3?"

    Multiples are easier because they entertain each other.

    Cairo has been a blessing although I can honestly say now that i really miss having a girl basenji in the house. The boys are so rascally…...

    This morning before work....Caesar wanting me to blow him with my hair dryer, sitting calmly next to me. Cairo chewing on a deodorant bottle, belt, and curtain....running around.....thinking "what can i put in my mouth next!"

    But, with all that, I am whipped. I love that they have to be near me where ever I am.

    Sometimes I chase them with toothpaste!! LOL, it is soooooo funny. Mommy's way of payback.:D

    Never in a million years did I ever want to get another dog like Duke when he was younger. He was so wild and just a nut case. Then I discovered his Basenji-ism and learned all I could and trained him better. Even the sofa digging to China bothered me, but not for too long (my fault - not enough toys to keep him busy). Now there is Daisy - "Ooops! I did it again." Best thing I did for Duke. Daisy is so occupied with Duke, all the troubles like I had with Duke, don't exist. They play, play, play. I think they are both trying to be top dog. We'll see if either of them ever get to be it. No regrets and am glad we have another.

    Interesting thing about Daisy - She does not bark. She has a very-very high pitch (hard to describe) like hoot. Only heard it a few times. But she's not a barker. (Duke barks!) She's mostly quiet - when we first got her and put her in crate at night, she had some jungle sounding cries.

    There's nothing like a basenji in the works, from the way they instinctively lay with their had on the bum looking the other way ( I've never met a B that doesn't) to the way you KNOW they all rub on wet towels or play bow…it's all very endearing and in this breed you often identify traits that they all have, an insight into their genetics and their behaviors. I've never enjoyed a breed so much.

    @Thana: she does have basenji characteristics then apart from her colours and looks.- i also think she must have some basenji blood! She is lovely and lucky no matter what! adorable little face:))))) Having read about the characteristics I think she does. The lady with the basenji that we met also commented on some of the things she was doing as "very basenji" (eg. standing on her back legs so she could see what was going on). Has a lovely wrinkly forehead too. Got very frustrated with me earlier and did her funny bark, more of a wierd howl really. She is def one of a kind. Its a shame we have to have her spayed (not that I could ever justify letting her have a litter).

    lol usually when you breed a bigger dog to a smaller dog the Male is the tiny one. Its just dangerous to do it the other way around. As far as DNA breed testing I would go for it if I could. But i am just interested in those kinds of tests. We offer them at our clinic but i haven't ever seen results for them.

    My Rue is pretty perfect. She is mixed with something (I don't know what) so she doesn't look like a real B… and she isn't interested in anything in our house (chewing wise), doesn't bolt out the door, and licks like CRAZY! She also doesn't really like to play with other dogs at the dog park, she just smells them, occasionally chases them, then comes back and lays down by me (EXERCISE DANG IT!). The only normal B behaviors that I see in her are the little noises that she makes (she makes a lot of them for different reasons) and her BAROOOOOOO (which is fitting because we named her Rue before we even knew she was a Basenji) and it seems like she is stubborn about sitting. It's like she is saying, "yeah I know you want me to sit, but first I'm gonna spin around in a circle. Then maybe I'll sit if I feel like it." Haha! She is a character!

    Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions! I read about the poo in the console too, yucky! There will be 4 of us and the 2 dogs, so hopefully we can keep them out of trouble. :eek:

    OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
