Okay, as many of you know I am new to the forums and have recently adopted or been adopted by a Basenji mix, a red and white one year old male. My mom named him Beeji and he is a sweet heart.
Tonight the three of us were watching TV, Beeji on the couch, Mom in her recliner and me in mine. I had gotten sleepy and had reclined back and was almost asleep when I heard a short loud high pitched ruup sound.
When I looked up, there stood Beeji at the foot of my recliner. I asked him what was wrong? and he leapt up into the recliner with me. He proceeded to climb up to my shoulder and then curled up and tucked his nose under my chin and began to snore.
A few moments later he stretched out full length all four feet up in the air, his head thrown back on my shoulder hard and fast asleep.
Is this typical of Basenjis? or is it coming from his terrier side? He was completely relaxed. After a while, he rolled over on his side, took his mouth and placed it over my nose. I told him No Teeth and he stopped and then licked my nose. He wasn't biting, just mouthing. However, I believe in no teeth touching so I always tell him no teeth and either distract him or ignore him if he gets too rough. This wasn't rough at all, he just rolled over and put his mouth on my nose almost like a kid would put their thumb in their mouth.
Right now, he is in my bed, with this head on the pillow flat out asleep. When it is time for me to go to bed, he will gladly get in his crate but as long as I am up, he wants to be on my bed.
I am learning more and more every day!
Oh by the way, we had our second Basenji display of shredding. Mom hasn't got it down yet that she can't put paper towels in her trashcan so this afternoon, here comes Beeji with a paper towel in mouth, tearing into the living room where he flops down and begins to shred the towel!! He made a lovely mess and seemed to enjoy himself royally!
aloha,
Cheryl
