Some Pics of Beeji, my B mix

Show Off Your Dog
  • Here are some photos of Beeji, my Basenji/Terrier mix. He was a stray and I am afraid he was abused as he shies easily and startles over sudden sounds. He also cringes when you are holding something in your hand that is long and narrow, such as a remote control, etc.

I seem to have done an attachment, I need to go back and reread how to post a photo..

  • He is beautiful! The pictures always show up as attachments and then the administrator works magic and poof they appear! Keep those pictures coming!

  • He is quite the handsome fellow!:)

  • What a cute little guy…it sounds like someone has terrified him quite a bit. It makes me so angry  that people can mistreat little animals.

Have you tried to condition positive things from the startling sounds & objects?? Topaz had the same issues with sounds. I worked with her so that every time she jumped or got startled I would ask her to sit & give her a treat. Now when she hears something she just sits :)

  • Beeji is such a cutie patootie! He's lucky to have found you and made you his "pack". :)

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback.

I am working on the startle and fear responses. I like your idea of sit and treat since Beeji is definitely motivated by his passion for treats!

When he gets scared by something such as the tv remote, I have him come to me talking to him in soft wooing tones and then show him the object and let him sniff it. Now I will add the sit and get a treat too.

He is getting better and certainly loves living here. he has decided my Mom's double bed is much more comfortable than my single and sneaks off to stretch out on it whenever he can. :)

Mom pretends to be upset but secretly I think she is tickled to death. She is totally ready to spoil him. He loves getting under her rollator walker. I think he like the cave feel of it. He takes his favorite bones and treats under there.

I will be posting more photos as I take more since I want more photos, and he is so funny sometimes plus, I want him to learn that the camera is not a scary thing. In our family there are always lots of cameras out so we have to help him learn to at least tolerate them.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

Lovely swimming pic?s especially the one with daddys head beside his beloved B glad that your beasts approved the new stroller..LOL There are quite a few basenjis that enjoy swimming I guess it?s matter of taste and habit;) Myran thinks he?s a lab when Miss Efia is a real prissy when it comes to water…..

Rafismom, we started him out in a crate, but he hated it. Cried something fierce. We then started leaving him in my son's room, and he was absolutely fine….well, until he started crying again. Then we gave him roam of the house while we were gone, and have had no problems at all. Yes, I know. I'm lucky! He absolutely hates for us to leave, but he's good while we are gone. No complaints here, for sure. Maybe it's the possible black lab that mixed in that makes him so calm? He has his moments, especially outside when he sees a squirrel, etc., but overall he's a very calm pooch. Just last week, I was walking the dog at a local park when I hear a woman saying something about the dog. She was a good distance away. I then realize she was talking to me and asked if my dog was friendly. I said, "yes" and she came over to pet him. She told me that the dog reminded her of her first dog. She said her first dog was a basenji. After more chatting, she said that it was actually a basenji mix, but that my dog looked a lot like hers. She told me how much she loved that dog and told me all sorts of stories about her. Such a nice lady. Gave me a few bits of advice and about a half hour later we parted ways. This is my first dog, and I've been amazed at how friendly other dog people are when I'm walking him. This has been a great experience.
