Food aggression in dogs is normal. You have to train them to not be, and no stranger should try to take. Heck you shouldn't unless it is something dangerous. Do you have any idea where the guy got the dog from? Perhaps its breeder might help you with training. Do you know if perhaps the exgirlfriend wanted the dog and he took it for spite?
Question…

Hi all,
I have a question about my dog throwing up. In the time we have had her she occasionally has thrown up here or there, always once with no problem after.
Anyway, today she threw up around 6:00 or so, and I am guessing it could be because she ate some grass clippings that were left on our lawn from the last time we mowed it. IT was partially digested food. Then I didn't feed her, but did give her a treat awhile ago. Now, she just threw up again, it was just the treat, plus the corner of a yo-go wrapper that we knew she nabbed earlier (THat was the only part she got, we got the rest away). She has never thrown up twice before, so I am worried. My husband said relax, she is a dog, that is normal but just wanted to get an opinion anyway. Is it normal for dogs to throw up more than once? Otherwise she is behaving normally, her energy level is normal, and she does still have an appetite, she tried to steal my food away as I was eating it! I know she is hungry but I don't wanna feed her right now cause I don't want to wake up to her throwing up in the night.I also don't know what to do about feeding her, its either feed her now and risk her throwing up in the middle of the night, or feed her in the morning and risk her throwing up in the crate while we are at work.
Any insight would be great. -
Poor thing…What kind of treat did she get? Hopefully it's just the grass causing the vomiting...
If she is obviously hungry, I would feed her a little less than normal and if she gets dry food, mash it up with warm water so it is easier on her tummy. Just keep a eye on her at this stage I would say, but if she isn't pooping and keeps vomiting she will need to go to the vet. -
You could give her some rice and a little chicken broth in very small amounts and see if she keeps it down. If not then she need to go to the vet.
When I worked in a vet clinic, if a dog had diarrhea or vomiting we would not feed for 12 hours to let the stomach settle and then offer very small amount of food at a time and watch. If after doing that several time throughout the day with no vomiting, go ahead and give her her normal ration.

Here's the thing-I know a lot of the people here will agree with me. Most B's will throw up-period. Mine will throw up if they have an empty stomach. Mine also get fed twice a day. The youngest will go outside first thing in the am and throw up. If you feed her too soon after she throws up she will throw up again. Sometimes the food didn't sit well in their stomachs and they will throw up. I wouldn't worry too much unless she continues to throw up and cannot keep water down at all or if she is throwing up for extended periods. Let us know how it goes today.

Tayda throws up periodically also. Just recently I've found that she tends to get car sick if we drive not long after she has eaten. She also does the throwing up of bile if she hasn't eaten in a while. I notice it mostly in the mornings since it will have been a long time since her meal the night before. I've actually gotten good at holding over the toilet so she throws up right in there. ha ha.

Nala throws up occasionally too. Last time it was in our bed, under our covers. LOL! DH got that wet one….ewwwww YUCK!

THanks everyone for the advice, she ended up being fine, I fed her this morning and no throw-up when we got home I was just worried cause she has never done it more than once before. Its funny about how you said you put her over the toilet, my husband managed to hold her over the garbage when she threw up, so she looked ridiculous but at least it made no mess!

This is great advice.
Here is my rule of thumb that a vet told me once.
If the dog or cat throws up once, dont worry. If he/she throws up 3x in one day then go to the vet.
Dogs eat grass to make themselves throw up when their tummy is sour. My basenjis have all done this.
I have seen them throw up florescent green, food like you said, and stuff they shouldnt have eaten, and everything under the sun. If it is normal throw up they will typically try to eat it.
