Need Help In Missippi!!!

    One of my friends lost their Basenji Mix after a car accident, and sent me this flyer. They didn't even know it was a basenji mix until they emailed me. All that they knew was that they had a dog that they couldn't "chase", has no undercoat, and is an escaper. :(

    The dog is skittish. People have spotted it though, and there is still hope. If any of you could help them find their dog, it would be much appreciated.

    Oh, you are a good friend. I do hope their little girl Daisy is found and back home soon. She looks like a Basenji mix to me - so cute and sweet. Wishing you all the best of luck in getting her back. Please let us know - fingers crossed.

    I feel so sorry for them. They sent me this in an email, and I sent them a response asking them if they were sure of the parentage. They told me that they had rescued the dog from a life of being on a chain neglected in a backyard, and the owners had told them it was pit/lab. So I started asking them questions like: Does it have an undercoat? Does it sleep in bed? Does it counter-surf? Does it bark? Can she stand her ears up?…Wrinkly forehead when she does?

    Every answer was a basenji answer.

    The only "good" to come of this, if there is a silver lining, is that they are applying to join basenji companions, and basenji rescue. Basenji Rescue really needs more help in Texas which is where they are from. They also are happy that they can find another dog with the same characteristics as their "Daisy".

    I can't imagine life without basenjis(as I sit at the kitchen table with a dainty black/white Katy on my lap).

    We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole.     @jengosmonkey au contraire ! I was being facetious or even sarcastic. Visitors have to be basenjiphiles - which you undoubtedly are. You meet the requirement.

I used to have 3 basenjis who would go nuts on leash if they saw another dog or huntable critter. They would bite anything (including eachother) in the heat of their excited frustration. Agree, keep the cat and dog away from each other, although with the best of intentions, sh*t happens and critters manage to get where they should not be. One of the reasons I think "no" is the second most important word in a dog's vocabulary (after "come"). As such, IMO it should be reserved for important situations and always be enforced. It means "stop what you are doing right now!" And yes, there are instances where you might want to raise your voice. Again, done only when it is important, this can be effective. Do not poison your important control words. Use them only when you mean it and make sure you are obeyed. For less important occasions, use a different word. You do not want to teach your dog to ignore you when it's critical for him to pay attention.

    some airlines will allow your pets in the passenger area. Cairo was flown down in a kennel under the passenger's seat. He was the size that would fit in a shoe box then, but hey…a little yodeling would be great for a trip to the alps.
