@tanza @debradownsouth Exactly what I meant. Like a child, you cannot expect a pup to do something their body has not grown enough to do. It's been years since I've had a puppy in the house. "Bug" came to me at 18months, well past potty training. (Thank heavens!)
I'm now a S.T.A.R Puppy

I am now 6 months old and today I passed my S.T.A.R Puppy test with flying colors.
Although my hooman mom has been training me since day 1 to be a well behaved pup with basic actions such as sit, stay, lay down, I now have a little ribbon to reflect my hard work.
She also taught me how to ring the bell when I have to go outside since I don't bark and I have been doing good with my loose leash walking too.
And she thought I'd be a tough dog to train...

Congratulations!

FWIW, puppies of any breed are often easy until they begin to mature and question authority, think "teenager" in human terms. If you can make it past 2 years old or better yet 3, you probably won't have any more "surprises", although dogs do continue to learn and every single day you are teaching them something, whether you realize it or not. My background in horses has shown me that the most reliable and good mannered animals can change quite dramatically with lackadaisical handling, which sometimes occurs with a change in ownership. The same can happen with dogs when they change households.

@Jeimygirl Oh, another beautiful Basenji! Love the ears! Congratulation to you both. Well done!

Thanks for the nice comments!
For those providing a word of caution, don't worry, I saw this meme once and I keep it in the back of my mind to try and stay prepared
