@2baroos “Know it alls like you have ruined these forums. Your opinion is not the only one. I for one am done with people like you who think you are the expert on everything. Those poles must be uncomfortable” Absolutely correct. She thinks it is “her” forum. It is not.

My "aging" dogs are fed TasteOfTheWild kibble topped with a bit of wet food (variety of good brands) or a raw medallion (duck or pheasant) and with a fair amount of water so its kind of soupy (vet suggestion). Their weight hasn't changed and my vet is very happy with their condition. He also does a CBC every year on them for monitoring purposes, which I'm happy about. I'm real skittish now with essential oil usage. A couple of friends who are into that got me started using them on my dogs but mine started having bad reactions (Teddy's allergies went berserk and he scratched off a lot of fur before I got it under control again). I do use a botanical flea/tick spray but even there one has to be very careful - I tried one that had cedar and cinnamon oil in it and it caused weird shedding and scratching.

Yes, she's a wonderful lady. Always very helpful, and quick to reply to any concerns I have. If I thought it was an immediate problem I would have contacted her right away, but it sounds like a common phenomenon. Glad to have community feedback.

Ditto OMG! Gossy is also a rock hound. She ignores little pebbles but gnaws on palm-sized rocks!

I am sorry to hear of your dog's possible Fanconi Affected status. I agree completely with Terry about waiting on the thyroid panel until he is stabilized on the protocol… and making sure if he does have a UTI, getting that under control as well. When you join the Fanconi list, be prepared that you will get tons of information, some of it conflicting. You will need to sort out what is best for your dog and you and his health. Do the protocol and hope for the best. Some dogs do very very well on it. Some do NOT tolerate it at all. I have two littermate boys with Fanconi, the one on the protocol was sick from day 1 and his body hated the protocol. His brother was sick on it, so we came to the conclusion that a better diet could make him feel better... and it did. He lived 4 years after diagnosis whereas the one sick on the protocol lasted about 2 years. Each dog is different. I lost my old Benny to Fanconi last fall and it was the most devastating thing I have been through in my life... I have helped my dog owners with their affected dogs and will continue to do so with the last few that have Fanconi Syndrome. If you ever want to ask me some questions, feel free to PM or email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Belly rubs to the boy for me and one from Benny's kindred spirit.

Well, he's always licking himself down there… lol... I never really check to see specifically what he is licking, but now I'll watch him like a hawk..
