I have been using the forum so I guess I should introduce myself. This is Ben. His temperament and socialization to dogs and humans are really amazing and unless he is totally bored he would prefer peace and quiet, and is coming up on 6 months. I am not a dog person per se (my wife is), but I love wandering the woods with him. Right now we are walking about 2-3 miles a day, and he and his brother spend the rest wrestling and playing with my kids (8-11) and sleeping in soft blankets.

    Sire: Mata Hauri Jenga
    Dame: Mata Hauri Sahara

He could be a rat terrier mix; but he’s handsome!

@julia87 How much do you know about Basenjis? Have you met any? It's highly recommended to learn as much as possible about them before making a decision to acquire one. This would be a good place to start.

@nyoung15 - Thanks, is she registered with AKC? Would love to see her pedigree if you care to share?

@Motala - That is good that you talked to Jan and glad to hear that she had not been spayed. I still think that your Vet and you should connect with Dr. Gonto about your girl's blood work and blood gas results and if he has any thoughts about it.

@basenjilovers - She is very cute, please make sure that DNA testing was done for Fanconi and PRA. And if not or you are not sure, you can get the test kits at www.ofa.org. You do the test as it is a cheek swab.

@Mowgli: We will be bringing home our first B (hopefully thats the right way to say Basenji in the forum) on Saturday morning. She is 1 yr old and she was just surrendered at a no kill shelter here in Wisconsin. We dont have any other dogs but fell in love (cautiously after browsing the forums) with Chloe (soon to be Mowgli, fingers crossed). I have found some amazing help already from a lady associated with the Southwestern Wisconsin Basenji Club, but am always looking for more advise. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks all. I think we will see (chat) a lot with each other. I saw her on petfinder through another thread. She is a very good looking girl. Make it a point to give her treats whenever you catch her being good. My dogs get lots of treats! They learn quickly behaving is fun.
