Help needed! :)

  • Chances of you ever finding out his pedigree or his breeder.... sounds like he came from a Backyard Breeder just out to make money. By the way, these days there are many responsible breeders that do not remove dewclaws (just a FYI). There are a number of less than responsible breeders in Texas.
Highly suggest that you get the Fanconi test done ASAP. It is a cheek swab that you do yourself. Here is the link https://www.ofa.org/diseases/dna-tested-diseases/fanconi-syndrome

  • Hi, Tanza. I read your old discussion and bumped into the name Rick Lamascus. FB breeders mentioned this name, and he might be a breeder :(
Thank you! I will do the test. Definitely.

  • Just adding to Tanza... lots of breeders in other breeds also have stopped removing due claws. There is more research recently indicating that we do serious damage removing them. No one on earth hates nails more than me, but I'll never recommend removal again after reading the studies.

    Rick Lamascus

His name is Kenrick Lamascus in Humble, TX . I can find only one event of him showing:.
BCOA bulletin Oct-Dec 2010. No idea of his kennel name or database search might hit registered litters.

    Owner: Todd McManus
    Breeder: Kenrick Lamascus

  • Ok. I found our breeder :) it’s Mary Alaniz. Father - Chainsaw, mother - Sakaru. And my boy was born not 01/01/16, but 01/04/16. However, I still need DNA test

  • @debradownsouth thank you. I read that. It’s sad. but at least I know his parents - their names 😊, and now I have to go through dna test. Hope my boy is healthy. * cross my fingers

  • The great thing is that a great dog can come from a less than top quality breeder. Also note that even if the test shows probable, it doesn't mean your boy will come down with Fanconi, and there are things you can do if he does.

I am surprised he was shipped so far away.

  • @donc
The tests no longer are "probable".
Either the dog is clear, and cannot develop Fanconi.
Or the dog is a carrier, which means it cannot develop Fanconi but can pass the genes if bred.
Of the dog is affected, meaning it has the genes and has (from Basenji Rescue) "Affected means that while your dog may be asymptomatic, he will almost certainly develop Fanconi at some time in his life."

  • was it Caldwell tx? We just adopted a 8month old pup from Craigs list Right in MY neighborhood. she is super sweet But I had a chocolate lab and suspected puppy mill Olio acres in Iowa and took her whole life of me searching and found several news Paper articles How they were busted at least 3 times with box truck full of different breed pups my hunch was right but she was the best dog ever. so we adopted (kinda more rescued from life in small crate) but she has been reaslly good but have that hunch feeling again and decided to go through all her paper work looked up breeder on FB could not locate so did google search added word Bazenji and found this forum first post I read was about suspected puppymill/byb in Caldwell TX if you want to compare note be more than happy, never ever seen sale agreement health guarantee with just the name Joey as Sire i forgot dam and Paper work is at home. no reg # now in order to get AKC papers your dogs have to both be akc and have reg#s on pedagree didnt get a pedagree neither did the people who bought her had her shipped here.

  • I have a dog from the Chainsaw/Sakuru litter. I have been trying to track down a birth date so happy to have found it here. Would also love to see a picture of my boy's littermate.

    born not 01/01/16, but 01/04/16

That would make him 4 years old... Happy Birthday to your pup!

  • We bought a puppy from a backyard breeder near Caldwell, He too was born 01/01/16 so they must be litter mates. The woman who sold him to us said she would send the papers, but never did. I can tell you the pups were well cared for and in excellent health. We met the parents and they were friendly and looked healthy. Our pup tested negative for Fanconi's. Our dog, Ben, is the greatest. He is trickster and a goof and can jump like goat.

jeannieJ, is your dog tattooed? You might at least be able to find out something about him if he is. Breeding is not a good idea unless you are experienced, know all about the breed's history and health concerns, and are willing to be responsible for any resulting puppies for the rest of their lives!

Well done to you and Maca as you've obviously sorted out the 'poo' problem. Basenjis are really very clean if they're allowed to be and I'm sure she appreciates you keeping her 'poo' area clear.

@Patty: I love the advice Tanza - but how true! I've found that puppies which leave me fully house trained (usually by their mothers) do often regress in new homes but soon re-learn. If she doesn't pee when she's put outside - take her for a little walk. Always have a word that you use when she does 'perform' when she does go and you'll find this serves you well all her life. And they regress when they are teething… totally... some more then others...

http://www.dogscouts.org/Protocol_for_relaxation.html good for any dog, and is talked about in Control Unleashed. Also, i'd try sitting down with him and massage him for a few minutes a day and tell him is is NOT going to another house, that you love him, that he's a wonderful dog, but need to learn to behave, etc.

@hamez: We got Tupper from Arubmec Basenjis in California. Another breeder from New Jersey Doris Daniels helped us find him. Well that would be Pat Cembura…ggg... I know her well... and the litter.... congrats.... I still would have him checked by a Vet to make sure he doesn't have a UTI... and then if there is not a problem... it just might be that he is marking the blanket, "if" this is really the only place he is doing this.... Puppy boys are pretty well known for "dripping".... gggg
