Lincoln the Basenji

Show Off Your Dog
  • Not new to the forum, but I felt Lincoln deserved an introductory post as he has now arrived home!!

Born Feb. 2016 (he is almost 1 year 7 months old)
Shares his birthday with President Abraham Lincoln
    AKC Champion (now retired)
    27 lbs, 17.5 inches tall

His favorite things to do are: nap for hours under a warm blanket; watch me from another room by swiveling his head around 180 degrees; running around in circles when he is antsy; and sprinting at full speed around the park.0_1504559041860_Lincoln cave bed 9-4-17.jpg

  • I love the "head resting on hip or spine" looks! Sayblee used to roll her head back, resting the top of her head on her back. I am sad I never got a picture of her.

  • Looks and sounds like a perfect B! Enjoy.

  • If he had a freckles on his underside (and no, um, male parts) he would look just like my female Gossip. She sits with her head curled like that and sleeps just like that !

You had me confused and then I realized you meant the write up on the other rescue (Okapi)… I like less white also. So I had to go look... wow, coloring reminds me of minpins. :) Cute dog though.

Ha! Years ago we had a chow-shepherd mix that would pull my husband around on a bike. Great fun for both of them except for random cat sightings…then the ride got a little scary! :p

Rafismom, we started him out in a crate, but he hated it. Cried something fierce. We then started leaving him in my son's room, and he was absolutely fine….well, until he started crying again. Then we gave him roam of the house while we were gone, and have had no problems at all. Yes, I know. I'm lucky! He absolutely hates for us to leave, but he's good while we are gone. No complaints here, for sure. Maybe it's the possible black lab that mixed in that makes him so calm? He has his moments, especially outside when he sees a squirrel, etc., but overall he's a very calm pooch. Just last week, I was walking the dog at a local park when I hear a woman saying something about the dog. She was a good distance away. I then realize she was talking to me and asked if my dog was friendly. I said, "yes" and she came over to pet him. She told me that the dog reminded her of her first dog. She said her first dog was a basenji. After more chatting, she said that it was actually a basenji mix, but that my dog looked a lot like hers. She told me how much she loved that dog and told me all sorts of stories about her. Such a nice lady. Gave me a few bits of advice and about a half hour later we parted ways. This is my first dog, and I've been amazed at how friendly other dog people are when I'm walking him. This has been a great experience.

Thank you very much for the info. I will have to try the time out. He was crate trained as far as being house broken, but now when I put brownie in the crate all he does is whine.. I do have 2 older dogs. one that plays with him and the other, well he just growls at brownie. The mother that was there when I got Brownie was a white shepard, maybe that is where the broad nose comes in.
