If you were in the USA there is lots of financial aid assistance for students, but Canada I have no idea. Glad things are coming together. I also know nothing about getting a Permanent visa when there on visitor one. Here they often require you to go back to your country, apply and wait. I know Canadian writer Joe Mallozzi has a girlfriend from Japan who has been on visitor visa. They've been together several years but the process to get her a permanent visa took them over a year. Hopefully you can get that done quickly so he can work.
I spent about 6 mos working as a groom for a stable in my mid 20s. I found it hell. As an avid horse lover, the things they do to horses are appalling. Of the 10 hotwalkers and 12 grooms only one other person and I had ever RIDDEN a horse. But I had dreamed of horse racing thanks to the old Black Stallion books, so I took off a bit of down time to try it. I am glad you have taken another career.
I hope your father is doing better. And that you are proud of how you are handling so many life changes, stresses and things because far from "pity", I find you admirable!
