I want one!!!
I told you - Your fortune will be made ! Add me to your list . . .
Hi Everyone,
I picked up this handsome boy from the local animal shelter yesterday, he is 1 yr old and about 27 lbs. The animal shelter had him listed as a Basenji and I was hoping to get your input to see what you all think he is. I'm considering getting a DNA test done because I am so curious.
He does have a bark, but he has only barked a couple of times in 24 hours. He is very obedient, good with kids, other dogs and obviously trained by someone.
Thanks for your input!
Yes, in my opinion, he is definitely a mix.
Yes, I too see a mix, Basenji wrinkles, eyes and ears (what about the tail???). That 'snout' resembles the ones I see in the Puggle, Beagle and Pug. It would be very interesting that you would do a DNA. Really, really cute! is this a pix of him going home with you? He looks like he is trying to guess what house is HIS new home…..if he is already good with your children, you adopted a winner! good luck!
Anytime I'm asked about or see a dog listed as a B mix my first instinct is to say no. Basenjis aren't ultra rare but they are uncommon enough that they aren't running around creating cross breeds. If you search basenji on petfinder most of the dogs are mixes of bully breeds and terriers that happen to have prick ears, the right markings and possibly a curled tail. The only way to know for sure would be a DNA test but those aren't always accurate.
Very cute dog!
side question, what car is that haha
Too hard for me to guess, I never get it right, but lucky boy for finding a home and lucky you for finding him.
Jolanda and Kaiser
Could be. Ears could be podenco also.
Anyway, he looks wonderful!

Actually, my first B was found running around and was not altered. Always a possibility since the canine need of procreation is pretty darn high up there with food, water, and air…...
I have to agree with CrazySenji…. there are many breeds that might have some traits like a Basenji... but I would say that the idea of a mix is pretty slim in most cases. Of course it does depend on where in the US you live... and if there are puppymill puppies in that area....

Oh I'm sure it does happen and will continue to happen but I just don't see it happening as much as rescues claim it happens. I know for a fact some shelters (the one I worked at did!) will label dogs as rarer breeds to get them adopted faster. We had two scruffy "doodle" mix mutts and the animal warden INSISTED they were Wired haired pointing griffons. LOL.
