January Updates

Show Off Your Dog
  • January is a slow time of year in the midwest, as normally we are in the midst of ice and snow. This year has been the exception with many days getting up into the mid 60s. I am not complaining. We managed to take the basenjis down to McKinney Texas mid month for the girls first attempt at Lure Coursing. They both took to it quite well, with Tempest earning both her majors. The next weekend I showed Gambit and Whippet Annie at a small show close to home. Gambit took BOS for another GCH point and Annie went WB/BOW for another single. February is also a slow month with only the Indianapolis shows and one day of racing, weather willing. Enjoying the time at home training the girls for the summer rally trials, they both enjoy it a lot, especially the cheese treats for doing well.

  • Sounds like a great start to a new year!

  • Sounds as though you had a successful January. I hope it augurs well for the year.

  • Congrats! The weather has been so up and down this winter in the Midwest. Good luck at Indy.

I've already replaced one set of bedsheets due to the digging. I swear he does it as soon as I leave the room, I'll hear him start digging, then he gets demoted to the couch (I guess this isn't really punishment…).

@AJs: I have been placed several times into the position of having something that was illegal simply because while I had acquired an object legally, a law was subsequently passed making that object a crime to own. I believe in 4th Amendment guarantee to security in my property, house, person and effects from unreasonable search and seizure as well as 5th Amendment protection against deprivation of life, liberty and property without due process. If what I own does not injure anyone else and I acquired it legally, I don't believe it is anyone's business what I have. Further, I believe that simply passing a law against something because the majority of people voting on it don't like it does not constitute due process, especially if I previously acquired that item legally. Sheesh! When are people in this country going to learn to mind their own business! Well said, AJs Human! Especially when it comes to simple things like owning animals that are not dangerous, not endangered, do not hurt anyone, do not make noise to irritate the neighbors, etc! If it's a tiger or an elephant, I'd understand… but a pygmy hedgehog or a fish? And if I can drive to another state to legally buy it and I keep it on my own personal property and take good care of it, why should anyone care? Cheers to you!!

@Mantis: How old is she? Tell us more about her. She is so cute! When we got her (late Oct 2006) the vet thought she was 9-12 mos based on teeth. Over the months she has been getting more spots on her belly. Dont know if that gives any sign of age or not. She seems smaller than some of the Basenjis on this site. She is very thin and muscular. Is there a difference between sizes Male vs females? Could she have been a runt?
