Basenji rescued from pond in Colorado!!

    WESTMINSTER, Colo. – Firefighters rescued a dog from an icy pond in Westminster on Thursday afternoon.
    The fire department was called after the small dog fell into the water at about 2:30 p.m. at Faversham Park on 73rd Avenue.
    The B shift from Westminster Fire Station #1 donned ice rescue gear, slid out on the ice and got the dog, according to spokeswoman Diana Allen.

    Allen said the dog's owner took the pup home to dry it off and warm it up.
    The owner of the dog contacted 7NEWS and said the dog is a 4-year-old basenji named Bello. The owner said Bello was in a walking harness on a leash when he ran after some ducks on the pond and the leash snapped. She added that Bello had never been on ice before and he slid into the water when he couldn't stop in time.
    Westminster Fire issued a reminder that it is important to keep your dog on a leash and never go out on the ice yourself to save your pet.

    Awww Poor baby. The two things basenji's hate most, cold and water. So glad it had a good ending and I hope he's none the worse for wear.

    Oh, wow, I'm glad the rescuers were so quick! That water had to have been freezing!

    It's always so nice to have a story with a happy ending.

    @melduff I for one think this is FANTASTIC news! You guys are so lucky! You have a one of kind super dog with the papers to prove it. Walks around the neighborhood and trips to the dog park are going to be very much fun... Friendly neighbor: Oh, she's so cute! What kind of dog is she? You: Thanks you so much. When you reach the point where you can make the approach instead of him making it, and he doesn't shrink away, it will be time to go on to handling, picking him up, etc. at which point if you have initiated contact you change to releasing him when he is quiet, not if he attempts to leave. Key is don't ask for too much too fast, and if there is a difficult point go back to where he is comfortable and proceed again. You'll get there!

    I'm not sure why your pictures are not showing up. I'm going to experiment. [image: 1467823614030-bathtimex.jpg] O.K. that seems to work. I dragged and dropped it and I see it. Now to check whether others can also see it! This is a picture of my two girls, taken a long time ago......probably in the '80s. I am wondering if the picture you are trying to upload is too big. Trying that now. I am not seeing the picture I just uploaded, so that may be the problem. ![0_1467823932526_Bathtime.jpg](Uploading 100%) Yes, I think that is the key. Downsize your picture and I bet it will work properly. As you see, I get the same uploading message that you did, but no picture, when I try to upload a large file.

    @phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

    I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
