Sunny's First Snow

Basenji Talk
  • Sunny had his first experience with the properties of snow today!
I opened the back door, and as usual, Ben & Sunny exploded onto Level 1 of the back deck with their usual "NO PRISONERS!" enthusiasm. They ignored the stairs and sailed off the top of the hot tub. Ben landed nimbly on deck Level 2 with the finesse of a figure skater. Sunny, not so much. He crash landed in a tangle of coltish legs, slithered 5 feet on his butt and took out Ben (oof!) Whereupon both dogs slid off the lower deck in slow motion, disappearing from site into a snowbank. Winter 1, Sunny 0.

  • Kamar also experienced his first snow today. He was very busy chasing snow flakes, and didn't want to get back inside, as the matter of fact, he got out of his collar on our morning walk. :o

  • I love to see Basenjis playing in snow. They're just like small children!

  • LOL, we never get enough snow here to be more than a nuisance. With Cara's utter hatred of wet feet, she doesn't care for it but it didn't bother her. I'd love to see her in REAL snow. You need pictures, please.

  • I'm really hoping for snow here this year. Last year we did have some, and Kipawa was very excited about it. :) Besides, there is something so special about snow around Christmas.

  • Please post pics. Love to see Bs enjoying the snow!

We had some snow last year. Having spent almost all of his life in sunny Southern California, Spencer was not impressed. Not one little bit!

You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

I love it when they talk and yodel. Whenever they do I always give them huge praises and lots of pets, though this positive reinforcement does not seem to yield any more yodels. I am very excited when I do get them.

I had nose surgery a few months ago and when I got home I was worried the dogs would be so excited and jump all on me, but it was crazy how mild mannered and dare I say tame/domesticated they were. I swear they knew I was hurt and gave me a day or so of good behavior. They are truly great dogs to own!

Paco sounds like a well mannered boy :) Malaika doesn't ask, she just dives in and when Reuben snaps and chases she just comes bouncing right back for more. I can see we will have to work realy hard with her. Coincidentaly my parents have just been with Reuben (Papillon) and there was a bit of improvement although she's still to rough.

What great news - she is obviously settling well. Although Basenjis have often been house trained before leaving the breeder they do sometimes regress in a new home and I'm sure you'll find Malaika very clean.

There's no animal so resourceful as a hungry basenji. They were slighted you know for centuries being last in line at the cooking pot.
