2011 end of year shelter challenge

  • If you really love basenjis you'll vote (frequently every day) for BRAT (main office TX) for this current shelter challenge. The major prize ($5000) is significant money for the shelters that win.
Just for the heck I looked at past winners and some shelters have won several times over the past years. It's time to get BRAT into the top 10 and keep it there. Yes BRAT has won the state prize but it would be nice to give it the big prize!

  • I know– and I have pushed and begged, emailed til people hated me. I wish we could get in the top 10 but the numbers don't seem possible.

I will say that you can make it easier by putting the link ON YOUR TOOLBAR so you see it when you sign on. Long before BRAT, I made voting daily a ritual.

In 7 clicks you can do the following..
    http://tinyurl.com/2ay9z2
1.1 cups of food to the hungry
    help provide a free mammogram
.6 bowls of food for rescued animals
help a homeless veteran get a free meal
help provide therapy for autistic children
help provide a child with lifesaving health care
help give a child in need a book
help protect 11.4 sq ft of rainforest habitat

  • I am voting every day. I keep it on My favourites so I just have to click and straight through to the site.

  • I vote every day as well.

Regarding voting, I hope it is all legitimate (the shelters who win consistently). Kipawa pulled out of a contest because we found out there was a 'work around' and people were voting numerous times/constantly during a 24 hour period.

That said, all we can do is vote and try to push BRAT to the top!

  • First Basenji's

I put a shortcut directly to the voting page on my desktop. Vote everyday because I SEE it everyday!

The rules did change this time and made it more fair: Under the rules of the 2012 Shelter+ Challenge: ? No group may win more than one Grand Prize in 2012. Winners of the Grand Prize are not eligible for state or regional grants during the same voting round, but are eligible for all other prizes. We congratulate Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc., our first Grand Prize winners of 2012! ? Regional prizes (State, Canadian, or International) may not be won during two consecutive voting rounds by a single organization; they are now limited to a maximum of two prizes during non-consecutive voting rounds per group per year. ? Weekly Winners are not eligible for Regional (State, Canadian, or International) awards during the same voting round. Weekly Winners are not excluded from Grand prizes and Special prizes.<<< But I agree. I think that they should limit Grand Prize to every OTHER year and state to once a year, not every other voting. It has become much like a steady supplemental income for a few groups. I think after so much money, the group should be eliminated completely for a while. As it is, many wonderful rescues have zero chance.

Usually if the owners say a dog is housetrained to the shelter but then the dog messes in the kennel, the shelter will sometimes either state partially housetrained or unknown. Many times, rescues who helps with the dogs from the shelter will state that the dog keeps the kennel clean and goes immediately outside when walked so they assume the dog is housetrained. I hope they were adopted together! Jennifer

@DebraDownSouth: http://basenjirescue.blogspot.com/2011/01/brats-final-rescue-report-for-2010.html I am in awe of Debbi and Pam. Their support and work this year has been, well, unbelievable. On behalf of Pam (who is not on the B-Forum) and myself, our heartfelt thanks for all the kind words. The saga of the Wimauma basenjis is truly unbelieveable. Rescue could not be rescue without all the wonderful people involved, giving their financial support and most importantly, giving their valuable personal time. Our appreciation extends to all those who have a love of basenjis in their hearts and lives. This month's The Basenji magazine has a four page article with great pictures of the Wimauma basenjis written by Pam Hamilton. Check it out! Sincerely, Debbi J.
