Kipawa wears his ID tags in the house too. Though we are ULTRA careful about him near doors that lead outside, you can never say 'never'. He is microchipped, but a name and phone number is so easy for people who might come across him if he got out.
I swear by having that info where people can see it. Even some shelters don't check for microchip, although obviously they should! I discovered the embroidered collars and have used them for several years. No metal is nice!
We have never used collars in the house for any of our dogs. I don't like the jingle and I like their necks to have a rest. Fortunately we live in the country and our current Basenji is an off leash dog, which has made him so much easier to live with. If he happens to go outside "naked" (due to absent mindedness on my part…...he is not a door darter), I simply call him back and put his collar on.
