Our boy has been acting up major since he got fixed and, tomorrow morn we get his stitches off. 7pm-Well our girl hasn't been feeling well and today she pooped in her cage(1st time ever) on all 4 sides, really liquidy. Well the next time she went out it looked more normal so figured it was just something she may have gotten into. 9pm watched fireworks returned home round 1030, and fed them at 11. Took them out like always round 1230 everything was about normal… Bed at 3am...fun begins!

After a grand total of 10 mins in bed she gets antsy wanting to jump down which she never does so I knew something was up... Hauls ass to the front door, n by the time I looked to start dressing she assumes the posisition and I stop her but she can't help it n has a major diahrhea on the carpet...

4am- done cleaning and put dogs in cage after my g/f walks them and return to bed...

415am- awaken to loud guttural growls from our girl telling the boy to please piss off from whatever stupidity he is currently in the middle of( not a new thing)... Ignored as it usually stops right after, then cage clatter clatter boom!!,
Followed by the loudest god damn awful evil kill growl/ incessant scream yelping, like a little girl with a skinned knee in an alcohol bath I ever heard...
I find he has broken our cage divider fallen on or girl n they are biting the hell out of eachother cuz she's squished and he's got his back leg pretzeled and caught in the grate over his head, my girl was frantically trying to help and got several deep bites for her trouble... I manage to separate the girl from biting, then try n help his leg out without any more damage, my g/f goes to clean her wound, while I finally get the boy free and while I look his leg over, thank god it wasn't broken, I don't know how not if u saw the posisition he was in, to turn around and find my girl had another pile...or puddle rather of poo in the same place as the first...

    530- it's now 530 n I've had no sleep...fml

  • Oh, my, what a night. How are the dogs doing now?

  • First, the human. Please get your GF to go to the doctor (please G-d tell me both dogs up on rabies!) and get started on antibiotics. Puncture wounds infect fast on dogs and humans.

Then get the dogs in for the vet to flush out any punctures and also put on meds.

Then, get another crate so they are really separated and this doesn't happen again. You risk creating cage aggression by having them with only a divider. I never let even cages touch. I have put plexiglass between when had company and had to push close.

    Very good advice!

    Preventable by... a second crate.
The princess does NOT need to be bothered by an annoying boy when she is sleeping :-)

  • Oh dear, poor you. I hope they've settled down ok now.

First of all yes afterwards it is funny for those of u who read… Those who took it too seriously... No I don't believe in rabies shots or vets, it's like voodoo magic it's not right... It funny now, But it wasn't at the time believe u me... But all is well with our dumb boy and the pretty pretty princess

  • Hope you are joking about rabies shots and vets. And no one took it "too seriously" unless you made up things and no dogs or people actually got any bites.

Tell me you are not serious about not believing in rabies shots or vets! You and your pups are in serious jeaopardy without either! Story was funnily written, but it must have been an awful night for you, your gf and the dogs.

  • I hate to tell you that if you do not believe in rabies shots and do not give them you are actually violating a law. In pretty much all states rabies vaccinations are required by law and you can get in trouble if for any reason your dog bites, is reported, and turns out not to have been vaccinated.

I do hope you are joking…

  • Houston

He is completely joking about the rabies and vet. Both my babies had their rabies shot and up to dye on shots. My arm is fine now I have been taking care of it. Thank ya for your concerns. Everything he wrote did happen he was just being silly with the whole voodoo magic.

I don’t bathe my three very often, they’re outside all the time and sleep in their dog house with hay and a heater when it gets cold, We bathe them when they get muddy at the park.

Ha ha ha , and just think it's only the beginning. We have discovered thar B's and Shiba Inu' s are all sisters's under the skin. Our 14yo Shiba, Sable, 5 yo B, Bitty, and the 2 yo B, Mr Baroo have tried their best to totally destroy our 3 cushion sofa, and 2 cushion love seat. They have torn the cover from all 4 arms and dug neat little nests in the center of all the cushions, just the right size for B's and Shiba's to curl up in. Karin says that if they ever grow out of it we are going to purchase a new living room set, but there dosent seem to be any chance of that happening any time soon.

You should call animal control and report a dangerous dog running loose. No one should have to deal with that type of danger when walking their dog.

Hi yul, Welcome to Basenji Forums! There is no dog breed that is truly non-allergenic (not allergy causing) because all dogs produce dander (shed skin cells), saliva, and urine. You can be allergic to the dog dander, dog saliva, or both. Urine is less of a problem since dogs usually potty outside. Pet hair itself is not an allergen, but it can collect dander, dust, and pollen. To answer the question about shedding, Basenjis do shed, but its not as much as some other breeds and they keep themselves very clean with their own grooming methods. Their coats are so short, though, with you'll hardly notice if they shed. Basenjis are known to supposedly produce less dander than other breeds, and many people who are mildly allergic to dogs can tolerate some of these "low dander" dog breeds with proper environmental controls. Be careful though, as there are no guarantees. People's pet allergies vary greatly. Severe pet allergy sufferers may not tolerate any dogs at all, even with the best environmental controls.
