Very normal… and would very suprised if there is an "infection".... seems to happen to male dogs from all breeds... The licking would be just their way of keeping clean.. I would not get very concern from it.....

Now this is happening to Kipawa. He really doesn't seem to like it, so he cleans himself very frequently. Same thing as Dan said - Kipawa is eating well, is happy and healthy looking. I've made an appointment for the vet tomorrow, because I want to be sure everything is okay. Am I being overly concerned?

I wouldn't worry about it, it really is very normal neutered or not. It seems to come and go and some dogs seem to have this discharge more than others. Unless the area is red or the discharge is excessive (dripping) it is not likely a concern.
I have a dog that used to lay on the back of my sofa and leave little spots of it, a breeder friend visited one time and when the dog got down and there were little spots of white damp spots she laughed and said oh he leaves "pecker tracks" too. Luckily he doesn't use the furniture to wipe himself anymore, its hard to clean.
I would guess he is just being a boy.

This too happens to Oakley, he is seven months (yesterday ;) ) and has yet to be neutered. I attribute it to boys being boys….let me know what your vet thinks so we all know. Good luck and thanks

All of this advise is a relief! Cody has the same thing now and again - even smaller amounts than a drop - more like the head of a pin size, but because he never seems bothered by it and it hasn't escalated, I figured i would just wait and see. Glad to see the feedback here that it's normal. I guess I figured it might be or I would have taken him to the vet. Being a girl myself, I sometimes find all of this boy dog stuff confounding! LOL!

Therese, thanks so much… your comments have put me at ease. You know how much I love my boy, and if there is the slightest chance of a medical problem, it's a vet appointment for Kipawa! I'll cancel the appointment, and just keep an eye on it and make sure nothing changes. P.S. Cancelling the vet appointment also means I don't have to be spoken to regarding Kipawa still being intact. I wish we had a real basenji-savvy vet, but overall they are great - unfortunately they don't have the background breeders do regarding bone growth.
