  • Welcome to our community! Hope you find Marta.

  • thank you so much, I hope we found her! for now I'm checking all shelters around and keep putting fliers everywhere….I got a feeling somebody is keeping her, she is too cute...

  • Good luck with your search, hope she finds her way back to you.

  • I feel so bad for you and this situation. Hopefully if you fed her, she will remember you when she's hungry. Did she seem to bond to one of your dogs????? Take your dogs for a long walk, or better yet, with you in the car as you drive around. Get out intermittantly and walk your dogs in concentric circles. If she is out there, she may come over to you, don't call her, let her walk over to you and somehow without quick movements get her to the car???? I had Uzie for two or three days here, and he got loose-with a collar and leash attached!!! It was real bad! He ran around the wooded area for hours, once or twice coming back to the house, but would run if I went towards him. I put Candi on a leash and he came over, and I jumped on the leash like a rugby player!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can only hope and pray for her and you and for a return to your home!

Thank you Buddys-Pal! I walk with my other dogs everyday and we still looking for Marta everywhere, I check all shelters around and put flyers but I got a feeling someone has her.

  • You need to contact all veterinary and shelters and rescues. That way if she turns up, someone will know. Also, churches and day care places. Children may spot her faster than adults so having them look helps… say if a neighbor found and decided to keep her.

  • We called all vets around us, shelters as well, churches and day care is great idea! Thank you!!!

  • I was just reading a magazine my vet's office distributes and there was an article from a DVM who suggested all the above alone with "never give up", and surfing the web for lost pet websites, local people (trainers maybe? or rescues/shelters?) that will post a picture of her on their websites, posting pics-grocery stores, and walking the neighbor hood as many dogs are found close to home, Local media, flyers everywhere and post 'found is critical'! Gosh, don't give up, and knock on those doors if you feel someone has her! Was she chipped and had your updated info?

When we adopted Marta from rescue I was really surprised she was not chipped, we had her for couple days, I was about to take her vet for check up, I don't give up, someone posted photo on 'sell swap give' of Frisco T X site , the dog looks like Marta, going to check today!

  • Yeah! Hurry and if it her, Oh boy! Tell us how it turns out Helen!

  • Guess who is back home? My trouble maker basenji Marta after was missing for 22 day!!! There are wonderful people who found her and put her photo on " sell swap give of McKinney' site and I got a lot of text messages! I don't know where she was last 20 day since she was found 2 days ago, very scared and thin, she was in the wonderful home for last 2 days, thank you Kimberly, Laurie, Jenna, Elena Black, and all of you for support!

Wondering how your two are taking to each other now. We've had Bongo for just over 3 weeks - seems like so much longer - and he and Fiji are now a real team. Wish I'd had the camera handy last night when they were sleeping on the couch with Bongo draped over Fiji. (The first week they'd share the couch but at far opposite ends.) They walk together, run together and share toys and bowls. She still puts him in his place if he messes with her crate, or crosses some other line that only the b's know and understand, but he takes it like a dog. I'm actually surprised, and thrilled of course, that they bonded so quickly. How are yours coming along?

Sorry if we sound so disagreeable … but it is so important that the health of our breed is #1 on everyones list and that everyone understands and does as much health testing as possible before breeding... especially since we have genetic problems that we can't test for, the family tree becomes our only way of knowing what we might expect... and it is only fair to people thinking about getting a Basenjis as a family companion that they know what they might expect..... Everyone should visit the BCOA Health site (www.basenjihealth.org) and learn what is being done to find genetic testing and what everyone can do to help

Thank you for your reply Seko. Bandit is 11 weeks this Wednesday 6th Sept. When he turns around bearing his teeth and growling after being told off for being naughty, I point my finger at him saying a LOUD NO!! He doesn't like it, puts his ears back and looks at me. I have bought a clicker and will attempt to train him and my Lowchen "Alfie" together with liver treats. Wish me luck!! Angee
