    I was cutting up Elk steaks for dinner with my parents one night and left them on the cutting board (I Know better). I left about 8 steaks on the cutting board. I left the kitchen for 1 minute and came back. I looked at the cutting board and I didn't notice at first but something seemed wrong. I started cooking the steaks and noticed that 2 were missing. Congo was sitting on the other side of the kitchen, the very picture of innocence. I came over to him and he had some blood on his nose! That little bugger stole my steaks and thought he could get away with it because he only took two. Way too smart! I couldn't even get mad at him! Too funny!

    I couldn't decide if he was full or being thoughtful. I laugh because before hiim I've always had basset hound mixes and they will eat until they explode. He's the only dog I've had that would just steal 2 steaks.

    ROFLMAO. Arwen is too little to surf the back of counters, so she'll jump on table, the chair, freezer and hop onto the counter if you leave anything she really wants. Cara, giant dear Cara, is so long she can get anything.

    Here is another good thought. Not only did he eat only two, he didn't HIDE ONE FOR LATER so you could smell it rot. :)

    I was just thinking, you sure he ate them both? Blaze had stashes all over our house. The old meat trays were the worst when they started to smell…

    Cricket can't reach the counter yet, but we are sure she's started stashing. A few favourite toys have gone missing lately...

    I'd take Knipper's statements to heart! They will hide stuff they want but don't necessarily want NOW. Shaye is a picky eater, never eats more at a time than it takes to keep her alive, I think. BUT, when she has a bone or a treat she doesn't want to finish, she is all over the house looking for someplace to stash it where Gemma won't find it. Sometimes she forgets it's there, and I find it when I do a deep clean, usually rotting and covered with fuzz!

    @sharronhurlbut: My basenji girl always shows me up. When I am walking the dogs, folks come over and say "oh, are those the barkless dogs?" My girl ALWAYS gives one of her warning BARKS when they say this. Laugh. I tell the folks yes, they are barkless, except for my girl! So, then discussion starts, and I explain how they are not MUTE. But my girl gets me everytime! That's so funny considering we have the opposite experience. Manny baroooos like crazy at home but when we're in public and we want him to do it, he doesnt. Go figure. They have a mind of their own.

    We hear so many weird noises coming from ours, sometimes it sounds like there's an Exorcism going on downstairs:eek: ….......then there's the Cewbacca sound Max makes....Willy's chimp imitation...Cleo's wolverine sounds.......ya got to love em!:D The Little Af Boy may be the most vocal Basenji I've ever come across......he's always saying something.....so cute:)

    Another favorite but to be used sparingly… laser pens. All my dogs love them and the cat (if the dogs would let him) would chase it for hours. But the papillion goes a bit neurotic while playing and that just gets our B- rilled up (it stops looking so much like play and more like dominance behaviors) so it's rarely (if ever) brought out.

    Oh, I think the cat will realize her limitations as Chance's growth progresses. Right now, the banter is tolerable for both, otherwise this play wouldn't be possible. Atleast cat realizes she can escape over the baby gate. She'll only get better at it. Think of it as good practice for both. Hopefully! :D

    Oh WOW, you guys are sooooo helpful. Thanks DDS for the link, that was especially helpful. I'm just intrigued with this breed for some reason, and I'm not sure why. Reading what all of you have to say is better that the typical things that you read on the computer. They all just repeat the same thing over and over where as all of you can give me personal experiances. I know all puppies are a lot of hard work, but compared to other dog (which I see some of you have had other breeds) are they actually a lot tougher? All pups like to chew and get into trouble but are they especially hard to train. Lets say with housebreaking and such? Oh and for all of you that have cats too, do they stay out of the kitty box or are the prone to make there way there, if you catch what I'm saying. I read they they are very clean and often times will clean themselves like a cat does. Really? And they are aloof like cats? Soooo much info and I would rather hear all of this from you than get false info. HELP!!
