Kipawa and Chalo

Show Off Your Dog
  • Chalo is Kipawa's favourite toy. It is the most durable soft toy we have for him. The others were being 'de-stuffed', so we took them away.

Chalo makes two sounds when you squeeze him. The first sounds like a motor starting - rrr rrr, rrr rrr. The second says "I'm Chalo, a cheetah with attitude".

With some people who have English as a second language, they have trouble pronouncing the letter R, instead it comes out as an L. I was looking at Chalo's tag yesterday and found out he is actually Charo. But we have been saying 'Chalo' for so long now, that we don't have the heart to rename Kipawa's toy, especially because when we say "get Chalo, the bad cheetah", he runs to find Chalo.

  • I need one of those toys! where did you get it?

  • They're best friends already. A basenji and his very own cheetah!

  • Enchanting - wow a toy that is not Basenji chewed - I don't see many of them around here!

Let's just say I am getting familiarized with the camera at this point. It's going to take a little while. And Kipawa is so fast that I really have to keep my eye on him to get him in the center of the viewfinder. But so far I am happy with the quality of the pictures. And being a digital camera, you just dump those that don't turn out.

There are 2 pet stores that I frequent, both small Canadian chains. One is called Pets N Us, and the other is called Bosley's. Chalo was bought at one of those stores.

  • Very cute!

  • So Cute! And sidenote, where did you get your paisley bedspread? I collect paisley house stuff, and need a bedspread to match my sheets ;-)

  • That's funny as it reminded me of my b/w, Nika I had as a puppy in 94 and I had this mechanical Leopard that was about 10" long and I would wind it up and it would walk. Nika would freak! Stay way back and sniff the air and as it would take a step she'd jump back.

The paisely bedspread was bought at Sears in Canada many moons ago (probably around 10). It came with shams. It was a great buy, really durable, I shove it in the washing machine and dryer and it comes out great. It's also reversible with a more linear pattern (but same navy and green colours).

Have you tried doing a search on Yahoo or Google under 'paisley bedspreads'?

  • I love your boys wrinkles…so expressive!

Thank you for sharing- you have a beautiful, basenji-enriched life! Isn't it amazing how tall they can stretch to when they want to see what's on the counter? Hugs and Roos-:)

You and Scarlett will enjoy the class - and it already sounds like you have a lot of the basics going very, very well. :) I found the part of the class I didn't like was the first 10 minutes where all dogs were allowed off leash to socialize. With FoPaws puppies being so well socialized, I found that first 10 minutes just wound up Kipawa so much, with all the playing! Then, it took me a good 10 minutes to calm him down enough to really work well in the class. The good news is that I am seeing as Kipawa ages and becomes more respectful he doesn't need to go wild when he first meets a new dog. I also think that not taking him to the play area off leash park is also helping him.

Yes, socialization is great and fun too..you know he is having a ball and what better feeling is there? I love him playing with the doxie, as our doxie Gus is way to grumpy to play with Pippin..he snuggles with him but no play, NO…Gus will do anything for bodyheat but that is just about all. Great pictures btw.

@Patty: Lovely pictures again, it's so nice to see Kipawa having fun with the other dogs. Agilebasenji, my friend has a sticker in his car 'If its not a Basenji its Just a Dog' I completely agree - I have the same sticker on my car (and on my fridge)!
