Adult Dogs at SW Kennel Auction-3/2/13

    These dogs are for sale at the auction. Is anyone familiar with them or the seller? These dogs could be the sire and dam of your dog. I could only find one in the Basenji Pedigree Database. The database website is: http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/search.html If you have a dog and it is not in the database, please e-mail Sally Wallis and give her the information needed.     Quit buying from breeders who sell their dogs at the auction when they are considered used up or they are unable to sell their pups either to a broker for pet stores or online. They have no interest in improving the breed as in no health testing and are only in the breed to make money. At least one of these dogs came from another auction or the parents did and I am certain that the other two dogs parents also were sold at auctions and I probably saw them and the grandparents many years ago at the auctions. These females probably had litters this past year and some of you may have bought them. If you are buying a puppy, ask the breeder where their dogs were obtained from and how long they have been in the breed. You can ask questions about breeders on this forum.

    @tanza I don't believe there was a limit to the number of letters, though I wasn't paying much attention to whether the field stopped me from continuing. Tanza is nice! I was actually surprised no one has claimed the name :D

    I forgot to add: Do not buy a puppy from a pet store! I would only do it if the pup was older and was reduced in price significantly and you told the pet store manager/owner not to order/buy Basenjis again as they are not good sellers. If you do buy an older pup remember it will have significant issues especially socialization, house training and health. I have never bought a discounted B pup at a pet store although I almost bought/rescued a 6 month old Shiba Inu but by the time the weekend came he was no longer there and this was before I ever knew about dog auctions and Amish breeders.     Wanda is planning two litters, they (the bitches) were just bred or are being bred now, so she will be expecting maybe end of December, more likely January.

    I completely agree with Pat on this one. I know that Pam/Sheila [Eldorado] used our Rocket Man last year. They bred him to a clear bitch, and were really hoping for more than the 1 clear that they got… Sean [RWD at the national] was their clear pup. So, they pre-limmed Sean this year and used him on two bitches; for one, it was her last litter and a way for them to continue forward with these bloodlines and producing all clear puppies. I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with this…. they did the health testing... the dam herself is older and Sean's sire turned 14 last month. The pedigree is laden with health-testing WITH GOOD RESULTS. It is completely different than the PP mentioning using a young male that wasn't pre-limmed, and although the sire is I think she said 12, has produced enough HD to make using this dog WITHOUT pre-lim testing quite risky. Sure, it can be done, but why make it so there could be potential problems in unborn pups? It's better to give them the best possible start in life that you can. And, since a pup over six months old can be pre-limmed, there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSES for not having it done!!! I also agree that you do not trust someone saying "my vet looked at them and they are fine" Sorry, if you are willing to put the $150-300 into the health-testing you are just not going to balk at the miniscule $35 to have an OFA certification number for your results!
