Adult Dogs at SW Kennel Auction-3/2/13

  • These dogs are for sale at the auction. Is anyone familiar with them or the seller? These dogs could be the sire and dam of your dog. I could only find one in the Basenji Pedigree Database. The database website is: http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/search.html If you have a dog and it is not in the database, please e-mail Sally Wallis and give her the information needed. This information is especially important if your dog is not AKC registered as it cannot be found anywhere else unlike AKC registered dogs. Her e-mail address is: zandebasenjis@btopenworld.com

Quit buying from breeders who sell their dogs at the auction when they are considered used up or they are unable to sell their pups either to a broker for pet stores or online. They have no interest in improving the breed as in no health testing and are only in the breed to make money. At least one of these dogs came from another auction or the parents did and I am certain that the other two dogs parents also were sold at auctions and I probably saw them and the grandparents many years ago at the auctions. These females probably had litters this past year and some of you may have bought them. If you are buying a puppy, ask the breeder where their dogs were obtained from and how long they have been in the breed. You can ask questions about breeders on this forum.

@tanza I don't believe there was a limit to the number of letters, though I wasn't paying much attention to whether the field stopped me from continuing. Tanza is nice! I was actually surprised no one has claimed the name :D

I forgot to add: Do not buy a puppy from a pet store! I would only do it if the pup was older and was reduced in price significantly and you told the pet store manager/owner not to order/buy Basenjis again as they are not good sellers. If you do buy an older pup remember it will have significant issues especially socialization, house training and health. I have never bought a discounted B pup at a pet store although I almost bought/rescued a 6 month old Shiba Inu but by the time the weekend came he was no longer there and this was before I ever knew about dog auctions and Amish breeders. @listeme: Knowing how fast technology changes and improves, I'd be hesitant to sign up for a program like this if I weren't going to be using it in a couple of years or less. Remember VCRs? Cassette tapes? Telephones that attach to walls? :D lol. ya i suppose you all are right. At first i thought about it, but i dont know. I guess its still a good thing if you have to do more than one chip in a dog. and i think they said the microchips are good forever (whether thats possible or not) I guess its still worth it for me, IMO. Since rescue and my personal dogs. I can use that amount of chips (in rescue) within a year or two. So…i think its a good deal. Whether it is or not...

I am sorry to jump in late & reply. I have been way to busy to spend time on the internet & am indulging myself the week. It may be months before I visit the Forum again. Regarding breeding your boy. Most breeders will not breed to a male they do not know. They pick a Stud dog for his Health Testing, Pedigree, Show record, conformation & the owners connected. Sometimes location plays a major part. Conformation plays a big part of picking a Stud dog i.e. will he improve on my bitches movement? Topline? Earset? No dog is perfect & we are breeding to improve the Breed not to make money or just have puppies. Not questioning your information, but I would reccomend doing some research & getting all the information you can about you boy. Next regardless of breeding him or not, do ALL the health testing. This will be helpful for your Basenji's future health & maintance. Not all dogs or bitches are 'worthy' of being bred. Find out if you's is worthy & be picky about the bitch he is bred to. It is much easier to buy a Show quality puppy than to breed your next Show prospect. I work for a Veterinarian & many Dog owners want to 'Stud Out' their male. This never happens! As a bitch owner I will find the best dog out there that will mesh with my bitch to produce better puppies. Lastly I have had a dog die very suddenly from prostate problems. He died before I could get him to the Vet. This was years ago when the risk of anestetic was not worth it to me. He was a mix breed & a wonderful dog. Gumby taught he so much in life & his death taught me even more. Don't make the same mistake I made, it isn't worth it. NOT all Finished Champions are of true breeding quality. And "Sperm is Cheap"!! Best of luck & hugs to the pups. Becky & the Ninjas

I can just see them in the ring…thinking 'fine don't give me that liver right now...I know if a few hours, you will take that jacket off, and lay it on the bed, and when you go to the bathroom, I will just get it then' envisioning them rubbing their little digits together in a tent like fashion....patience, patience....
