Bark for Life - American Cancer Society - Sat. 10-20-2012 in Chino Hills, CA

Off Topic
  • My Basenjis (Taj and Tag) and I are gearing up for the American Cancer Society Bark for Life at Chino Hills, CA to be held one week from today. We will be participating in a day of fun to raise money to help fight cancer and to honor all who have had their lives changed by cancer in one way or another. Whether you're a survivor, have a loved one who is a survivor, or have lost a friend or family member to cancer, you can make a difference in this fight.

Even though ACS focuses on human cancer, one of the honorees of my team's Bark walk is Taj's beautiful and beloved litter sister, Banners (Savannah), who passed away from cancer nearly 3 months ago.

I know most Basenji Forums members cannot attend this event in person, but you can do the Bark with us in spirit by donating to our team. Just as the nickels and pennies and dimes in your change jar eventually add up to dollars, so can small donations to ACS turn into a significant amount. Please consider supporting Banners' Brigade 2. Thanks.

Gossy does this too - we'll be walking and suddenly the "breaks are smoking" and she insists on turning around and going back. :D

That area is lovely. We adopted Fiji from a woman in Oxnard, and I think there may be a breeder there. We do have a big basenji community here in San Diego - 3+ hours south of where you'll be - pretty long drive but we'd love to see you! :D

We are learning in California how critical it is to stand together to lobby for our right to own healthy, well bred pets. The bill did pass out of the Assembly to the Senate but the vote was much closer than I think anyone thought it would be when the bill was first proposed. We still have to stay loud and keep writing letters and keep letting California businesses and politicians know how much responsible pet owners contribute to this state and how much money the state stands to lose over this legislation since money talks.

Taylor is coming home to Birmingham next week but I don't have a ticket for either show. He's famous for dropping in to night spots around town unannounced when he's in town. My boys are both musicians and I met Taylor through them long before he was famous. He's just as polite and sweet and humble in person as he appears to be in interviews. I think this is the girls' year to win American Idol. I like Melinda Doolittle best.

@jys1011: That's funny! I thought the show was live too..good thing someone said something :) I too was disappointed when Melinda left…I think she was the AI winner a long time ago. But I'm really torn between Blake & Jordin (she spells her name with an I) I really like Blake's style but Jordin's voice is really beautiful. it is live for the East Coast ;) That was one of the strangest things for me moving east from Seattle. Football doesn't start until like 1pm here on Sundays! And on election years…it is so wierd to have to wait, and wait for polls to be closed on the west coast. I wouldn't complain tooo much about being second class citizens...it is the price you pay for living in the world's most perfect climate, and beautiful scenery ;)
