• @Natalplum:

Does anyone know this breeder? Christian Esh on Engola Road in Newburg, PA. His name is on the paperwork as the breeder of my boy. I want to know if he is a legit breeder or not. I also want to know more about my boy's background and testing. On the paperwork it says Sire: Noah's Landing Bongo Drum, Registration # PA-ABA-0550958-001 Dame: Esh's Trixie Jewel, Registration #PA-ABA-0502823-005. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Those registration numbers are ACA numbers. ACA may be able to provide you with some pedigree background information. Although ACA is not a widely recognized registry, it does keep some pedigree information.

  • Do you have a kennel name on this person? How old is your pup? Is this an Amish breeder? Did you get your puppy directly from this breeder? We are researching breeders in that area for a pedigree.

There is no kennel name just the breeders name. Actually I never thought about an Amish breeder but that could actually be correct. I think Newburg is about 3 hours away from me and Lancaster is sort of near there. I'll have to check on that. I did NOT get my B from him directly. We rescued him from a pet store. He was there stuck in a crate for 3.5 months. I hope this helps.

99.9% of the time, puppies that come from a pet store are from a puppy mill. Responsible breeders never sell puppies to pet stores. The good news is that he has a good and happy home now… so the best thing you can do now is love him, give him a great home, get him DNA tested for Fanconi... and next time you want a puppy, go to a responsible breeder....

  • And buying from a petstore just ensure that puppy mills produce more animals since now there is a 'market'. painful as it is - you should leave puppies in the pet store because while you may save one - you really have just condemed many more.

Try a reputable rescue organization or a reputable breeder - I am just amazed that so many people on this list that have heard the horror stories and have gotten good information from those of us who have been 'walking the talk' for many years - still seem to find the worse situations possible to get a dog.

  • Let us know what you find out re your b and the health issues you will face.
    We can help you.

  • Wow, I know this is an old thread, but the sire of this dog - Bongo - was just signed over to BRAT today!!

  • wow! what do you know- I have to say that given the circumstances, BRAT is the best place he could end up- it didn't sound like he came from a responsible breeder so hopefully he finds a good home- Thanks for sharing

  • First Basenji's

This forum never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks for letting us know, Kebasmom.

  • When do you think Bongo will be ready for adoption? We already adopted 1 from Brat and would love the opportunity to take in another especially if he is related to our first boy 🙂

  • If the one you have is a male - I would not think that adding another male would be a good thing. Even if it is the father of the one you currently have - there is no understanding of that.

  • I have a female and a male. This would be our third basenji.

  • I don't know when he will be ready. I just picked him up and delivered him to the folks who are fostering him yesterday. He seemed like a pretty sweet boy. You'll need to contact the BRAT folks for more info.

  • Neither the sire, Bongo nor the dam of your dog is in the Basenji Pedigree Database. It is important to have the non-AKC registered dogs in it. Please e-mail Sally Wallis with all of the pedigree information at sally.wallis@btopenworld.com

If Bongo was used as a breeding dog for many years, he may not get along with other male dogs. Was Bongo turned over to BRAT by Esh or did someone else own him? Many PA commercial dog breeders got out of the business when PA passed the new dog kennel laws.

I could not find a USDA license nor a PA Kennel license for Esh.

    Thanks,

    Jennifer
