Long Beach vacation

Show Off Your Dog
  • I took my B's to Long Beach, Washington for an October beach vacation.

I rented a little cabin (dog friendly!) and we had a great time. Running on the beach, sitting in the sun, chasing seagulls, meeting new people (who said my dogs were well behaved! They didn't see them dragging me down the trail a minute earlier!), and just having a great time!

The cabin I stayed in was named Camp Hungry and had been in the family since 1898. It was cheap and I highly recommend it for a dog vacation.

2nd pic: Double vision on the beach!
3rd pic: No one in sight. Run and run some more!!!
4th pic: This is what dog-tired looks like!
5th pic: Just another great day on the beach!

  • What a wonderful little vacation! How great to let your basenjis just enjoy running up the beach. Thanks for sharing.

  • Looks like a wonderful vacation, I especially love that last photo. Glad you had such a good time, I dream of going to the Washington or Oregon coast with my guys, but it's a bit of a drive, hehe.

  • Great pics! I bet you all had a BLAST!

(We recently tried a vacation with our Basenjis…..we went to a cabin in the mountains. I spent most of the time cleaning up poop and barf - and then had to find a local rural Vet. Who knew dogs could get ALTITUDE SICKNESS????? It was miserable! - Someday, if we ever try the dog-vacation again, we'll have to follow your lead and go to the beach!)

  • Very nice pics and descriptions!

@Shaye's: I love the poem on the rock as well. Lucky little Kipawa - lucky mom too. At this particular beach, there are quite a few rocks inscribed with various partial poems or eloquent thoughts. People can also pay for a bench as a tribute to a loved one. The beach has a wonderful feeling to it, a truly welcoming area for dogs and humans alike.

Lovely pictures. It's good to seeing him looking so happy after his ordeal with GSD. The wound looks to be healing well.

@Basenjimamma: funny.. Webcams are a blessing but I also think that before the cams we ventured more on a limb as supposed to take the comfort road and stay in if the weather looks iffy. The dogs probably don't care one way or another, pending rain of course.. I do go up there when it's foggy only I know how to dress or at least take a jacket. In the summer it's usually about 58-61 degrees with the fog.

Now we do have the time to spent time with the dogs on the beach. The main tourist season is over and the beaches, at least if you know where to go, are empty as far as your eyes can see. This is Basenji-Fun-Season ;-) They have so much fun charging the doves and running just for joy. Regards, Esther
