Georgia- 6 Basenji pups need rescue!

Basenji Rescue
  • These 6 basenji puppies were rescued from a kill shelter in rural GA. The same day they were rescued, they began to show signs of Parvo. The woman who helped rescue and agreed to transport them must now quarantine and treat them in Georgia before she is allowed to take them across state lines to Florida, where they will be cared for by a wonderful Rescue Organization until they can be placed in permanent homes.Parvo is VERY expensive to treat, and still she does not have the heart to give up on these guys. Please help in any way you can.

******If you are near Lawrenceville, GA, she needs help transporting fencing. Any donations are appreciated. I know this is a tough time for everybody right now, but if we all chip in a little, it will go a long way to helping these guys out.

THEY NEED HELP. I am only cross posting so please contact the page owner for questions on how you can donate or help.

IF you are on FaceBook- please go to this page and "like" it.

We are trying to take donations for these babies.
One passed already because the Parvo was already to far along. :(
They need vet care and emergency medical treatment NOW.
The sweet girl taking care of these babies only volunteered to transport, but when the pups got sick in her car, she knew something was wrong. She is not allowed to cross Georgia State lines with these sick dogs to get them to the rescue group in Florida.

  • I wonder if there is any way that BRAT could revisit this situation. I understand that they made a donation, but it seems there is probably money available to assist with the medical care of these Basenjis. I know there is some question about whether they are full Basenjis…but to me, they look enough like it that BRAT should be in on this. Anybody active in BRAT want to try to push the issue further? Or if my information is wrong, feel free to correct me also.

I am the Texas District Coordinator for BRAT and I can assure you We are keeping a close eye on them, but at this time, they are spoken for by another Rescue group. This rescue group is in Florida, and wasnt ecxpecting the financial burden, so we are trying to raise money for the extra emergency expenses. BRAT reps have evaluated these babies, and they are in most opinion, Mix Basenji's. BRAT has made a large donation for their care, and we are all hoping and praying they make a full recovery.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Some things cannot be fixed. I urge you to get a qualified behaviorist (veterinary) to evaluate him. If he is truly unstable, rehoming him is not fair to him or the new home.

No matter what size bed you have, the dogs always seem to end up with 3/4 of it!

I wanted to get Roo but I have a couple family members that have been ill and don't want to have to board a newly arrived furry friend. So … we will wait to adopt again.

Getting the gov. involved won't do anything but hurt the legal folks. Just look at byb who go over the "legal" limit for ownership of animals in their care, or horders, who don't do even legal mandated care… Its going to take education and spay/neuter of any animal who leaves a shelter. It's going to take years...I only hope I see it in my lifetime.

Dear Basenji Forums Community, I am sure many of you have been wondering what was the outcome of this rescue effort. Well, let us tell you it was unexpected. A rescue mission that was supposed to unite our community to help save a dog turned into a complete opposite and brought us apart. I would like to thank everyone who stepped in to help and put their time and money to attempt to save this dog and offer him a life without neglect. Members who volunteered themselves for this mission had many years of experience with the breed, with both ill-tempered rescues, and those that have been fabulous. They had enough experience to make a determination whether to attempt this or not. While this dog had issues it is imperative to keep in mind he was a just a puppy, and someone was willing to give him a chance. Others may have disagreed on the reasoning for attempting this, but at no time they were given the right to derail this mission and use this forum to publicly attack and discredit members whose only intentions were to help save this dog. As a result of the actions of certain members our whole community suffered: The dog was not saved Forum rules about code of conduct were broken Existing members were publicly offended and discredited New members were exposed to public arguments Our community lost potential member referrals Members had to be suspended from the forum It is really too bad and sad, because we built this community to bring together basenji owners, breeders, and exhibitors throughout the world. To be hopeful that they could help one another and dogs in need. Thank you again for trying to help. All donation have been refunded and no more assistance will be attempted. Which, of course, is unfortunate for the basenji in need. As a last note please remember to review our forums code of conduct and forum rules and to treat others with utmost respect. Like the Basenjis, each of us is unique with our unique character, but our admiration and respect for this breed have brought us together and make us a community. Disregard for our forum community rules will not be tollerated on this forum. Please contact Basenji Forums staff directly at admin@basenjiforums.com if you have any questions or concerns. This thread is closed for public discussion.

hi sharon. I feel like I know you. I have read your stuff on Brat. I am glad that you are getting the word out on Brat. Mabel, My B was adopted from there. I cannot say enough good things about people in that organization. Actually I'm in that organization. We are good people. Mabel's foster was very helpful with helping me understand her behavior. I think a lot of it was due to fact Mabel is an alpha female. Well just thought I would say hi bubsgram94
