African Exhibition at National

  • @sharronhurlbut:

I don't know, but would be interested in the answer.

Sharon - are you going to the National - and will miss Wheat be entered in the AF Exhibition, seeing as she is full AF?

  • I so wish I had the $$ to go to the national this year..BUT Miss Wheat will be there with Lisa Saban and the other 3 african's that were brought over this year…
You will like Lisa, she is just a wonderful gal..Course, Miss Wheat is a charmer!

  • Starting from the full African, I think you just take the "average" for each successive generation of breeding. So for an example, if the sire is 25% and dam is 50% and you get the percentage of 37.5% African for the offspring. Not sure what the rules are for the exhibition though.

The highest percentage of one of mine is ~1.5%. He just has one African in the pedigree within 10 generations. I just halfed each generation.

  • If you tell me who your dog is I can tell you what their Af percentage is.

My recent pups are 34.37% New Avongara and will be elgible for the ASE at Nationals (not this year as they are too young, but next year).

Sire is 31.25%, grandma Sage was 62.50%, great grandma was 25%, great grandpa was 100%

Mom is 37.50%, grandma Feigh is 65.62%, great grandma was 100%, great grandpa was 31.25%.

  • I find this all very interesting and am so jealous of those who are able to attend and see all the Africanswhether full or no!

  • Oops! Forgot to say V's dad is 9.375% which needs to be added to Grandma Feigh's 65.62% making up V's 37.50%.

Thx Linda…at the time I posted the question I wasn't actually thinking of any of my dogs - I was just curious about how it was calculated. Especially considering driving from Maine - Colorado for the National seems a big undertaking time wise for me. :)

...but now that you offer :D, would you do the percentage for Timar-Eldorado Black Sabbath. Would you mind doing it the same way that you did your kids: pup percentage and then broken down by Sire & Dam...

    Thx! Kim

  • Wow Kim - pretty convoluted pedigree with regards to the Avongara influence. :O)

If I did my math correct and I caught every Avongara blend - below are all the blends in your pups pedigree and their percentages.

    Sire's side:

Eldorado N Akuaba Never Say Never 6.25%
    Am-Ch Eldorado's Bejeweled 12.5%
    Kibushi Spellbinder-Niger 50%
    Am-Ch Eldorado's Barcelona 25%
SIRE: Eldorado's Akuaba One More Time 3.125+20.31= 23.435%
    Kibushi Get Sirius 50%
    Am-Ch Eldorado's Adonis 25%
    Am-Ch Eldorado's Ooh-La-La 12.5+28.125 = 40.62
    Am-Ch Eldorado's Hocus Pocus 50+6.25 = 56.25%
Sunkis Dream Weaver To El Dorado 12.5%
    Kibushi Labrea 50%
    Cin-Jas Sunkiss Splash 25%

    PUPPY: Timar-Eldorado Black Sabbath 11.71+ 25.00 = 36.71%

    Dam's side:

    Timar's Mushika 50+12.5= 62.5%
    Am-Ch Timar's Renaissance 25%
Akuaba Free Spirit At Timar 50%
    DAM: Timar-Bluestone Jessamine 18.75+31.25= 50.00
    Reveille Pilgrim 50%
    Bluestone's Lost N Found 12.5 + 25 = 37.5%
Bluestones King O Pride Rock 50%
    Bluestones China Rose 25%

  • OMG - Thanks Linda! Your post is fantastic!

This is really cool, and thank you so much for figuring it out. Yes, definitely convoluted - which is no wonder my own calculations were off when I tried it myself yesterday. ;) I can see where I goofed though, so thanks for such a clear post. It was fairly clear on the Mom's side (which I had correct), but not so clear on the Sire's side. :D

So now, back to the question about the ASE. What are the rules/requirements around entering a dog - is it simply off percentage only or is it meant for maybe a more straight forward pedigree. Is there somewhere that the rules are posted?

  • I do not think there has ever been any discussion re: whether or not entry is based off percentage or a more straight forward pedigree. I assume too it would have to be changed per the NSOC if a change is needed, asked for etc.

I know of other people who have entered where the pedigree was not as straight forward. What I would do is on the 3 generation pedigree you need to send in, I woud note the pwercentages of the dogs so they can see where it is coming down from. This is what I plan to do with my current litter.

  • Thanks Linda…great info!! I'm going to talk with Jean, his breeder, this weekend and go over all of this so we can figure out a game plan.

BTW, I meant to say earlier that I've really enjoyed your articles on your website. I found the article about Breed Standard particularly interesting.

Oh, and are you going to National this year?

Again, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to figure all this out. :)

  • You ate most welcome. Glad I could be of some help. And thanks for the nice words re: my articles and website.

Yes, I will be at Nationals as I the Specialty Treasurer. Besides which, I can not miss out on doing all the various performance events, practically in my own back yard!

Perhaps I will see you there.

I haven't been on the forum a lot lately, but did you get another dog? Missed that if you did.

Yes, I did add another b. The girls ended up having to be separated so I added Ozzy (Timar-Eldorado Black Sabbath) :D. Ozzy & Aaliyah now run together and Ruby & Brando run together. I haven't posted an intro on him as I've been super busy and need to take some pics.

  • Congrats! And a b/w too.
    Welcome to the club. :)

Thx Clay. I'm very happy - Ozzy is quite a cool character :D. Hey, are you going to the National?

Yep, I'm planning to go. At least I'm 95% sure. If I were lucky enough to finish Zoni before then, I might not.

@renaultf1: Actually, the Raven that BasenjiBoy owns is not THIS Raven. This Raven (Eldorado n Akuaba's Nevermore) is owned by Andrew Sawler (same person that owns Eldorado Echo of an Icon…"Jimmy"). BasenjiBoy does have one of the Never pups, though...Rylee (Eldorado n Akuaba's Never Been Kissed)...a red girl. My understanding was that Rylee was at the National but misbehaved on the table... Ooops….that is right, of course! Their new girl IS Rylee...sorry about that!

@Catchme: :) I don't get to attend but I did order a jacket and vest. Just to far away and no vacation time from work available. But for sure next year. :D sorry you can't make it… but thanks for the merchandise order, which by the way ... today is the last day to order....
