My Mums New Pup

  • Its a rat baby

  • I'll be the first to admit that I am not really a lover of Chi's but she is actually quite smart looking:)

  • She is actually a real sweetie! Not at all yappy and has got on great with all the other dogs, took a couple of days to settle but once she realised they werent going to hurt her she has just been out playing with them all… except Maya.... Maya absolutely ADORED the little rat baby, she was so sweet with her, until the rat baby wouldnt play! She did the usual basenji thing, bashed the baby on its head with her paw (that is almost the same size as the chi's head!!). Rat baby ran off screaming and wont go near Maya again :D lol

That is soo funny and like you say typical B:D

Is your mum going to show her or is she purely for a pet?

  • Have to admit i laughed at that too! She looks cute and i'm sure she'll soon learn how to stand up for herself, most little dogs do!

Ooh, no, not going to be showing her! She just came from someone who couldnt keep her anymore so she is just going to be a pampered pet :) My mum has wanted one for years

Maya actually plays the roughest of any of my dogs, the others are so gentle with the little baby but Maya just goes bounding in all over the top and not realising how big she is compared to the chi  But the other dogs are all getting on great with Poppy, she is one of the pack now!

  • She ceratainly looks a character:)
It's funny you should say that about Maya being the roughest with her. When I was living in Germany I started up a dog socialisation class on the camp that we lived on. When I got Belle and once she was vaccinated I took her with me obviously. We had all sorts of breeds from JRT up the Rotties,Boxers GSD's. People were terrified of letting their dogs play with her incase they broke her lol. It didn't take long for them to realise that she could play just as rough and could hold her own lol

  • Basenjis obviously ooze control. Milo is as nice as pie with most dogs even when he's being given a hard time by other Basenjis. If you saw him with other dogs while out walking you would not believe he was the same dog! His hackles go up, he lunges at them and is a real embarressment! With other Basenjis, he just takes it, it's bizarre.

  • What a pretty girl. I love Chihuahuas and find them just as sassy as Basenjis. Mine had a chi friend and she always kept up with their high jinks. When she died they were very upset and when we walked by the Chi's house they'd set up a whining and calling for many days.

    I like your mum's choice.

  • Maya will play with anyone on walks, her best friends are a great dane and a viszla that go to the dog park at the same time as us - she likes them to chase her :D She is forever jumping at them and gets so excited when they play with her!!

Maya doesnt always like other basenji's at shows, but you should have seen her and Rocco at National at the weekend!! We were in the stakes classes together and they were playing the WHOLE time! I was just adorable. Maya is so over the top when she's playing, she's not normal!!! All legs hitting at the other dog… Rocco loved her ;)

  • She's a cute little ankle biter :) Just kidding. I call all small dogs that.

How cute..although I never liked them either..I think they look like glorified rats..well at least the ones I have had the honor to meet. This one looks quite spunky..like she would stand up for herself..and the black lab puppy..adorable too.

  • I never liked Chihuahuas.. always thought they looked like squirrels' that is until last month when my brother took in an abandon one from the neighborhood. The little guy has kind of grown on me…he's cute in an odd way :p But the best thing of all is that Sonny loves him and watching Julio put Sonny is his place is very funny... After Sonny bopped him over the head once Julio hasn't let that happen again :D:D:D

  • Poppy is cute.

  • Awww, love the picture of Sonny and Julio! Julio sounds just like Poppy, she has all the bigger dogs under her thumb (paw??) now! I think she will end up being in charge of the pack.

  • awww..she looks like a sweetie! However, I must say that the black lab is WAYYY cuter :) hehe

Yay, thanks for sharing. I don't see much Basenji action on it yet, but I'll keep a watch on it. Also very interesting to get a UK perspective, too.

Thanks everyone! Dylan is so much prettier in person, these pics dont do her justice at all :D The marking on her side is so strange, i think it looks like an "@" symbol :D Maya really likes them actually, she has been used to cats as she was raised with my old man Simon. She has just come into season and has gone all pathetic and maternal and seems to think these kittens are her babies so she is just all over them washing them (much to their disgust!!) and cuddlng them. Saves me grooming them i suppose lol!!

@Kipawa: Sounds like you will be really busy later this summer/fall. I have seen pictures of the boats that people live on in the Netherlands - it looks like quite an interesting lifestyle. I assume your basenjis are fine with it. Good luck in finding your special cat. :) There are two types of living on a boat :) People that live on a boat that can't sail anymore. (they put it in a harbor and live there) We live on a ship (we can't call it a boat  ) that sails every day. We load our ship with material (like corn or coils of steel) and sail untill we are at the place to unload. We load the same weight that 40/45 trucks can load ;) It's a weird lifestyle, every night we walk the doggies on a different spot and every day they meet new dogs and people.. And we are always at home with them.. that's a great thing!
