Dolce update

Show Off Your Dog
  • Just wanted to provide an update on Dolce. She is doing well and seems to be anti-basenji in her mannerisms so far. She is a major lap dog, can't stand to be away from us and loves to give kisses. She started her show training last week and begins her obedience training on Saturday. She already knows sit, lie down, shake & stand. Stay, however, is not in her vocabulary, I find it difficult to catch her sitting still for photographs. Below is a list of her major likes and dislikes.

    Likes:
    Eating-Anything
    Shredding her beds
    Sleeping on the heat vents
    Rawhide
    The neighbors rat terriers
    Being on our laps
    Giving kisses
    Chewing on Denim
Lying in towels just out of the dryer

    Dislikes:
    Sleeping through the night
    The Crate!!!!!
    Snow
Going outside when its cold or rainy-Which is everyday in GA this year!
    Cars
Not being allowed on the furniture

  • Sounds like Dolce is doing realy well

  • When I die I want to be reincarnated as a basenji in your household!! Dolce already owns more clothing & accessories than I do!

She's sooo stinking cute! Are you bringing her to the lure coursing trial in Cartersville this weekend?

  • Awwww there's my girl. You forgot one of her likes….chewing on people's hair. :D

Me too! Natalie spends more on the dog in the first 2 weeks than she spends on me in a year. We will try to come on Sunday to the trials.

  • She is lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Oakley is 15 months and I use a martingale collar but no matter howuch training he still seems to "cart pull" as I call it, his head goes down and he digs in to pull, I'm looking into getting a hurtta harness but don't know which is better for pulling- the Y harness or the regular one I see Chaffie wearing

@moetmum: A basenji with a KC Gold GC! That just doesn't seem right! You should be really proud of her, that is a real achievement. Don't forget to let us know when she gets it. Hey she hasn't got it yet , Gerry ;) I hope she does, there is such a lot to it. We struggle a bit with heeling off lead.

@AJs: I have been placed several times into the position of having something that was illegal simply because while I had acquired an object legally, a law was subsequently passed making that object a crime to own. I believe in 4th Amendment guarantee to security in my property, house, person and effects from unreasonable search and seizure as well as 5th Amendment protection against deprivation of life, liberty and property without due process. If what I own does not injure anyone else and I acquired it legally, I don't believe it is anyone's business what I have. Further, I believe that simply passing a law against something because the majority of people voting on it don't like it does not constitute due process, especially if I previously acquired that item legally. Sheesh! When are people in this country going to learn to mind their own business! Well said, AJs Human! Especially when it comes to simple things like owning animals that are not dangerous, not endangered, do not hurt anyone, do not make noise to irritate the neighbors, etc! If it's a tiger or an elephant, I'd understand… but a pygmy hedgehog or a fish? And if I can drive to another state to legally buy it and I keep it on my own personal property and take good care of it, why should anyone care? Cheers to you!!

@Mantis: How old is she? Tell us more about her. She is so cute! When we got her (late Oct 2006) the vet thought she was 9-12 mos based on teeth. Over the months she has been getting more spots on her belly. Dont know if that gives any sign of age or not. She seems smaller than some of the Basenjis on this site. She is very thin and muscular. Is there a difference between sizes Male vs females? Could she have been a runt?
